1st, it's COLD there. If it wasn't up to temp...180, it will smoke. Pumps can't be advanced on a PT system. It is wet linered, so a cracked block is out. Head gaskets leaking would give a noticable "chirp" under a load, the compression is sealed by a 1/32 ridge on the liner. Small cams will leak...
It does look a tad tall. Nice truck, 1stDeuce! Shop around for parts, download the TMs...they are free here. Do NOT be afraid to ask questions! What are you gonna tow it home with and how far?
No lookin' that up here. The manuals do not go into that detail. The base timing is done thru a key in the nose of the cam. Fine timing is done thru the gaskets on the cam boxes. Unless you have lots of white smoke at start up, don't mess with the timing. If you want HP, you only need to turn...

RE: Bio alternatives
Lee, the other than ULSD won't hurt the engine, it kills the DPF. The soot loading is doubled when anything but ULSD is used. As for the oil, you can use other than CJ-4, but you will need to cut your oil change intervel to about 1/2 of what you do it now..instead of 10k on...
RE: Re: RE: Registering Diesel trucks in CA
They are. CARB is doing inspections of the data tags on engines. If it wasn't built for US operations, the truck will be taken then and there. If the tag isn't there, a citation is issued and that's when I see these guys. I get the ESN off of the...
We're starting to see this at work. The above regs are for "haul for fee" trucks, bassically any truck that hauls a load to a dump that they have charged someone for. Doesn't matter if a person has 1 truck or 20. The truck you are looking at might very well fall into this catagory and had the...
When the truck manufacturers add an oil temp gauge, they put the sensor in the pan. When I have a unit on the dyno and am monitoring the engine, i've noted that the OEM gauge and the engine ECM oil temps are very close, <5 degreed from each other. Cummins takes the oil temp reading in the main...
Opie,
The shop we use at work did mine. Serck Radiator is their name. They are nation wide, specializing in HD and construction stuff. They cleaned mine in an ultrasonic tank then pressured it. What a difference. Ultrasonic cleaning will also work on the GI cans. I paid 60.00 I think. It was a...
