That could be one glow plug that is not heating. A I stated before. When you bypass the resistors the glow plugs do not cycle as designed. When I start my truck cold the glow plugs cycle on and off till the proper temperature is reached. it serves as a cleaner burn, smoother cold idle and thus...
That's going to be a tough one. I had 2 like this. I don't want to discourage you but that glow plug was a hollow thin metal piece. It was not very helpful to me on both attempts to remove the broken glow plugs. I had to remove the heads on both trucks. I had or could not obtain a tool that was...
The locker gets a bad rap, even after breaking and replacing mine I still think it's good, so does gm because they still use it.
WOW I can hardly believe I am on the same web site. Someone actually talking good about a well proven GM 10 bolt axle. I have had dozens of them. I have the same...
Did you vacuum check your seal on the fuel filter base? It must be completely sealed or air will seep in and allow it to drop prime. The broken terminal will not cause the shut down on cold starts. Good Luck. Did you drive it far? And how bad is the white smoke?
Got all the tools cleaned up and put away. sanded and hammered on the rear bumper. Swept 1/2 the floor and then called it quits for the night. I was over doing it. Goal met.
Spin on filter will not add longer life to the truck. I have the same trucks with the same parts. taking care of them and servicing them will add decades of life to the truck. I have the same one 20 years and just sold 2 years ago. A member here has it. Completely stock and still going strong. I...
I actually drove my M1009 to the Grand Canyon, LA, Las Vegas and all the way back thru Utah , Colorado, Kansas and all the way back to Pennsylvania. i never missed a beat. The CUCV has an altitude compensate valve on it and I never noticed. Now 10 years earlier I did the same trip in my Diesel...
You had definite problems with that M1009. I drove them and still do at 70 mph day in and out. With the original setup.
Mike8404 I know you can do 55MPH most of the time. When you come to grades that will differ with the grade %. I would never be scared to do the trip. Just check it out and...
I tow barred many CUCV's from Georgia to Pennsylvania back in the early and mid 90's. I towed pickup's with pickup's and blazers with blazers and a few pick ups with blazers. I towed an M1010 with a pick up twice. The trip was long and hot. the worst place I remember was I-77 into Virginia. I...
Keep talking we are both listening. When you present a degree in automotive electrical engineering you will capture my full attention. Until then everything you write is speculation and untested without the 30 + years that the original system has lasted and is still operational on many of these...
Just an observation. The rear battery tray has both batteries mounted on it and all the weight appears to be on the inner fender. I would consider getting a bit of a brace to anchor some of that weight onto the inner fender structure like they were from stock. That would take a lot of stress...
Weather is NOT holding out here in Pennsylvania. Oh well. Time to clean the workbench, seal and paint some small parts. Lots of parts to paint yet. the bed floor is primed and will be there when the weather changes again. At this point I am overwhelmed with projects. Stay focused set a...
No tools required. It is just a plastic clip on switch that has a tab that slips into the shifter tube in the steering column. It is easily adjustable and clicks and slides into place to get the reverse lights to illuminate when the transmission/shifter/shift tube is in the reverse position. No...
If it was the way we drive them. Terminus M1009 would have failed years ago. And if you need any of the resistors from the firewall. I bought everyone I ever seen because I was told they went bad all the time. Guess what? I now have a crate full of them and never changed a one of them. Go...
I NEVER had any issues with them in over 20 years. What am I doing wrong? it can't be luck. I have multiple CUCV's all wired stock. Stock relays , batteries , glow plugs and all. I am confused where all these changes are improvements. The ones I do buy and trade I return to all stock and the...
I needle blasted, wire wheeled, used the rotary scuff pads on the bed and then hand scuffed the entire bottom surface. I washed it down with DX330 wax a grease remover. Blew compressed air and used my back pack blower. I was satisfied with the results. Not perfect but better then 99% I see. All...
The bracket will fit. Voltage matters nothing for the bracket. Both starters should be checked out and thoroughly gone over before you put any effort into installing them and saying that's not the problem. It is a process of elimination with good parts. Or just keep guessing and do more work and...
