Ummm.... no, like Ron said, these have a 5th wheel plate but no winch on the back.
Also, the 10 ton tractor has two versions, one with a single winch on the rear and one with two winches. Both versions - the winches are rated at 45,000lbs!!!
Transmissions are not that hard to find. It has a heater and a hard top, both plus in my book.
What does the owner want for it? I would offer $2K and see what he says. Do you have a way to move it? Does it start up or at least crank?
M818 tractor has the air cleaner on the drivers side fender. No turbo.
M52A1 (Mack) and the M52A2 both have it on the passenger side fender. If you pop the hood and see a cross over pipe going over the valve covers, its a Mack. They have turbos. Buy it!!!
My wrecker is missing the cap for the power steering pump. Anyone have an extra or know the part number to cross over?
I looked in the TM (GASP!) and of course the only piece that doesn't have a p/n is the cap!! I tried matching up a generic one at the parts store but no luck.
thanks
If you are going to pay $600 for a crane why not just get a few truck loads of large sized gravel and dump in the yard to drive on? Then when its dry later, dig it up to reseed the yard. Might be cheaper?
I have a M54A2 if you want to trade me a 809 series truck for it!
The M54 cargo truck came with either a Continental 6602 gas engine, a Mack 673 ENDT diesel (A1) or a LDS 465 multifuel engine(A2).
The 809 series trucks all came with the Cummins 250 NHC engine. The 809 series truck have...
I think between the time of Kaiser-Jeep and AM General there was a different name for a few years, General Jeep Products? maybe. I know I saw an odd ball data plate one like that.
Maybe before Kaiser-Jeep it was just Kaiser?
Kenny,
So the body is up 4 feet??! Holy crap that must be something to see.
If I get this going, I can come over and help you pull that motor if you need me to.
Might be easier than gin poles.
Mark - I answered your question in your other post.
The transfer case is the sprague type, over running clutch so the the front only engages when the rear tires slip by so much (7%?) The transmission has valve on it to tell the t-case when you are in forward or reverse gears.
thanks again for storing my wrecker !
One way to upgrade the brakes is to add a second master cylinder like the "newer" M35A2's in the Air Force had. Basically gives you a split brake system so if one sides goes, you have half a system left to brake with.
I haven't been able to go over it very well so I am gonna do that this weekend. I did notice some wires disconnected under the dash, the headlights are loose, mirrors are gone, just some little stuff for now. I am gonna get some batteries and open the hood when the wind dies down and check...
Stryker - I plan on starting a small business pulling the oil and gas trucks out of the mud and a small crane business hopefully.
Kevin - I plan on repainting it the same desert camo when ever I get the mechanical side done. Come on up this way, door is always open

Try and photoshop a Willys pickup version of a bobbed 5 ton. The Willys pickup has the flat fenders and a "stepside" sort of bed. I have alwasy wanted to do this to a 5 ton.
