Dman and Gman had the opposite extremes of possibilities to what can happen with using synthetics.
Having said that, I have experienced it for myself. Using Syn in my tranny/TC/engine/axles IS on the list. And I'm REALLY particular about which brand. Royal Purple or nothing.
It's just so...
G,
I read that thread. Royal Purple Max-Gear 75W90 and it says SPECIFICALLY "great for manual transmissions requiring GL-4 or GL-5 Fluids" and "Meets performance requirements of MIL-L-2105E".
SO, using those EXPENSIVE LUBRICANTS could save your tranny. I would also consider using PROLONG...
Mark,
Contact Desert Rat. He had this EXACT PROBLEM while on the road. He drove from Greenvile, Kentucky to Houston, Texas in LOW GEAR (transfer case). At a WHOPPING 28 mles per hour. He has YET to live that down.
BUT he knows what happened and HOW to fix it. IS this a Sprag transfer case...
Let approach this from reverse.
The guages are no biggy. Either YOU can order them from Saturn or Memphis or whomever over here. Or who ever sells them over there.
Hell, I'd even ship them to you if you paid for them and the shipping.
The 3rd gear problem is a bit more work, but I'm fairly...
He lists his phone number. Call him and ask what he wants for it.
If you can live with the answer, buy it. IF NOT, make him a counter offer, but don't expect him to snap it up.
My understanding is the deuce is a hard beastie to find on your side of the pond. And are priced accordingly...
If you read the auction CLOSELY, it says it's a US BLM vehicle, sold by the state of OREGON, but is currently in LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ.
HUH? Does ANY of that make any sense? Skip the part where they don't know diddly about MV's in general and this deuce in particular.
But since WHEN does the...
M,
Thx. 30/32nds worth of rubber. And they are MONSTERS in the snow. Plus I can run 65 mph which has been verified by both a chase car AND GPS.
So I'm a happy camper. Literally.
And I figure as they are made to get 100k miles, I doubt I will need another set. EVER.
jim
Well, here's my Michelin XDY1's. They have worked well in snow so far. A little goosey on solid ice, but I just flipped the front axle to drive and she straightened right out.
jim
For EVERYONE. Haven't you ever done something DIFFERENT. JUST TO DO IT DIFFERENT FROM EVERYONE ELSE?
I know you all have or you would NOT own an MV at all. You would own a minivan.
So, allow me to say that I hear the 'beat of a different drummer'. ACTUALLY, I hear a completely different...
UH, with 7 hours left, it looks like it's $5 G's, not six.
MAN, I wish I could talk the wife into it. But we are already having a fight with the city over the deuce. They would come out and cr@p all over my front lawn if I brought THAT beast home.
We gotta move a little further out of the...
Dman,
Damn man, that's a sweet looking clutch. And you can be proud of that wiring harness. It should last for another fifty years.
And your 'garage setup' REALLY gives me garage envy. As I only have a carport (and I live in Denver) is the MAIN reason I don't have many power tools. No place...
Mike,
I understand where Kenneth and Matt are coming from. And Kenneth, you MAY be correct about the parts availability. OR NOT. Only time will tell.
Regarding the power steering. DUDE, believe me, I LOOKED at 5 tons. I don't know about where you live, but here in Colorado it would have...
Dman,
Thx for the input. I hate to say it, but it IS begining to look like you are correct.
The Napa filter #1458 does actually fit and function properly. BUT you have to have a threaded adapter that will DEFINATELY have to be turned on a lathe down to 7/8" 16. Randy and I were discussing...
OK and this is for everone. Yes. I AM lazy. Or perhaps you MIGHT call it working smart. I use a 20 ton air/hydraulic jack. I use a ROBO IMPACT wrench. Neither of which were available when the deuce was originally designed or released for military service. But I use them. BECAUSE THEY ARE...
Rather than reposting this info twice, go to this thread that is currently in 'The Deuce' section...
http://www.steelsoldiers.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=4672&postdays=0&postorder=asc
The basic problem is I can't seem to find an oil filter whose ID is basically 1" 14 for the...
NOW I'M COMPLETELY DEPRESSED.
How in GODS NAME can the base where the post screws into have an ID of .915 (59/64th) and yet the post itself have an OD of .995 (essentially 1")? AND the threads spec out at .945 (61/64th).
So it WILL NOT FIT the Napa 7/8" 16 TPI at all. WAAY to big. I just...
OK, now for an update.
After unsucsessfully looking for a 7/8" OD pipe that I could thread to 14 TPI, Desert Rat asked why I was reinventing the wheel? Stupid me, I asked "What do you mean?"
His reply SOLVED the problem. He replied, "Just take an old middle post, thread it and cut it to...
Basicallly I'm lazy. The spin on replacement is ONE piece. The cannister oil filter system is :
Cannister
Filter
Threaded hold down middle post
Spring
Metal shim
Two gaskets
So, you can have ONE part or seven. And God forbid you ever have a gasket start leaking, like I do, cause then you...
