When I decided to do my tow I thought just like Bob in the tow he did above. But the M1009 doesn't act like a pickup. The short wheelbase makes a big difference, I found that out in anything over 40mph. It can be done and I'm sure its been done by others but as one poster stated the pucker...
One of the problems with towing a M1009 is they are blown around by passing trucks more than a M1008 is. Neither one should be towed by a M1009. Too short of wheelbase and not enough weight. An 18 wheeler was following me for a number of miles when he decided to come up directly on my bumper. I...
I have done it on the interstate and would not recommend it. If a large truck comes up behind you very close, that is enough to lose control. That is if you are going over 50mph. Up to 40mph it feels good, so stay on the side roads where you can keep your speed down. Interstate speeds are too...
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: 1028A3 Axle Ratio?
The towing company was something like Stauffers Towing, the # in my cell is 801-544-8666. GSA gave me all the info for the towing and history. If you ask they may be more specific with the trucks history. They gave me 2 towing companys to call. The...
RE: Re: RE: 1028A3 Axle Ratio?
I forgot to add that I read somewhere, I believe on this site, that some A3's might have had 4.88 gears. Are you sure its an A3 and not an A2. The NSN# would tell, but I didn't keep it.

RE: Re: RE: 1028A3 Axle Ratio?
Those lockers in the rear want to lock on every tight turn and will wear out your tires in a hurry with on road use. At least the 2 M1008's I have do. With duels in the back and the posi in the front, off road towing and hauling should be supreme. Your truck was a...
I'm going to have to put my M1008 up for sale soon and I want to describe it correctly. I believe it's a M1008a1 but is there a way to be certain? Were M1008 trucks built after a certain date a1's.
Thanks,
Greg
I think I know who you mean. There is one person who doesn't get the euc. You can fax it a half a dozen times, get confirmation emails, and still no joy. She is pretty cold on the phone too.
I have another engine, if this one goes. I bought this truck from a fire dept. I don't think they changed the oil very often based on how old the oil was in that first change so I didn't know how long it had already been in there. They told me they had taken it on 6-700 mile trips to fight fires...
I've put about 8K on the truck since I found those 1st chunks. I don't know what I did with them. I thought these next pieces would have been the same kind of stuff, but they aren't. They are both ends of a large C clip and 2 smaller pieces of the same clip. I should have dumped the oil out of...
Hello All,
My M35a2c has a Continental Multifuel. When I first got it about 4 years ago I found 2 pieces of what appeared to be cast steel in the 1st oil change. The larger one barely fit through the drain hole. Now in my last oil change there are more. Anyone else have this? or know where this...
I sent in a sf97 for a trailer but it has no manufacturer or year and the serial # is hand written with an engraver. I'm wondering how this will all turn out.

rust
I'm sure it depends where the truck has been, but out west here, they can be rust free everywhere but under the floor mats. If you find one that has been rustproofed there it can help but those mats will hold moisture until they fall through floor to the road.

My spare was a good one. I transfered that filter just in case, it's all working good. The #2 light goes out quicker now too without much reving after startup.
Thanks,
Greg
My #2 alternator light came on while driving. It doesn't come on instantly at startup like it used to either and its dim. I removed the old alternator and had a spare from a parts truck but the spare doesn't have the capacitor or whatever that is on the back of the old alternator. Do I need it...
Do any of you guys that are mixing WMO have a pyro on your engine? I'm curious about temps and turning up the fuel on the IP if your horsepower drops some using the mix whether gas , diesel or kerosine is the cheaper additive to the WMO.
