    long bed willys jeep..

Was on the big Island of Hawaii about 5 years back and saw in person 3 or 4 WW2 jeeps with this modification. I stopped and talked to a man that had one in his yard. He said they were modifications made after the war and used by the coffee plantations as coffee orchard jeeps. I even found one...

    Oiling The Air Pack

Thank you for the tip on the Mystery oil. I will try to keep an eye on it. It has to work better than the water that was in there. Took it out this morning and it seemed to perform fine in the brake department.

    Oiling The Air Pack

I ended up using the compressor to blow out extra moisture. Then put in between 1 and 1 1/2 ounces of Marvel mystery oil per other threads on this issue. Put everything back together and it seems to still work. Now I know what to do with the airpack and when, so will keep an eye on it...

    Oiling The Air Pack

Help! Was following the advice to lube the airpack and when I pulled the plug out of the back of the airpack, water came out. Yes I do bleed the air tank every time that I shut it off, but when I got the truck, the air tank had to be half full of water. Is there a way to get any other water...

    M54 top speed

Thank you for the tips. I got about a foot high stack of TM's with this truck and they are getting a work out. The biggest truck I had before this is an M715, so I am in a new ballgame. Working on the brakes just about convinced me that I need to stick to the smaller stuff. But it is fun...

    M54 top speed

Thank you for tip on the RPM. I think it was doing the 2300 to 2500 in 5th. I am new to this truck and only have about 200 miles on it, so am still getting used to shift patterns, was checking out double clutching, and trying to figure out what it will do. It is fun to drive and when you...

    M54 top speed

I am not too worried about the power issue. It is a 20,000 pound truck. But the speed makes me wonder where the obstruction is. I would be happy with about 50 MPH. We do alot of historical displays and if I have to run by myself, would like to go a bit faster. When we convoy, we try to run...

    M54 top speed

It seems from reading threads that the deuces and 5 tons have top speeds ranging from 47 to 50 MPH. Do you guys agree with this? If so, I took the M54 out for a road test today. Got it on the highway and it seemed to top out at 42 MPH. I did hit 46 on the downhill side of a railroad...

PNW-2010-Second Annual Chehalis River Valley MV Convoy/Camp-Out

Exit 99, the west side truck stop is probably more accessible and easier in and out than the east side. I buy fuel at the east side, since it is new and their prices are about as good as you will find. If you want an easy off and on of I-5 southbound, exit 101, Tumwater Blvd. is good as well...

PNW-2010-Second Annual Chehalis River Valley MV Convoy/Camp-Out

Just a thought for those of you that might head down to Napavine from up north. Especially if there are a few of you. Jump on I-5 and stay in the right lane. Preferrably put a large truck in the rear. It actually feels safer when there are 3 lanes or more as there is plenty of passing room...

    M 880 Facts

My 1977 M886 does have blackout lights, although the two small ones in the front are missing, the brackets and wires are still there. It is nice to have an MV with a heater and will do 60 MPH with no problems. As I get older, the 8 foot bed in the back with a little foam pad sure beats the...

    WA / OR non-CDL guys

Thanks for the info. I see what you mean. It is listed as empty weight 19,8XX. So 10,000 more off road and 20,000 more on road. On the registration they listed it as a classic vehicle, scale weight 19,8xx, and they put no GVW weight. I don't know why and I am certainly not going to start...

    WA / OR non-CDL guys

Sorry about the RV question. It was answered in the other threads, but am still interested in the GVWR question.

    WA / OR non-CDL guys

So why isn't a warm fuzzy 5 ton an RV? And could someone tell me where the GVWR is listed for the 5 ton? I understand look in the manual or get a weight slip for the truck and I understand how much it could carry according to the manual, but commercial trucks have the GVWR weight listed on a...

Brake wheel cylinders??? Where to find???

Be sure to check which size you have on the front. It is supposed to be 1 3/4, but mine ended up being 2 inch. It is disheartening when you are ready to put it back together and the brand new cylinder doesn't match the other side now.

Source for 5 ton wheel cylinders

Have him check to see if he has 1 3/4 or 2 inch before you spend the money for a new cylinder. I ordered a new one so it would be ready when I got it apart. Took the old one out and opened the package of the new one, I had 2 inch on the front and a brand new 1 3/4 in my hand. Ended up...

    WA / OR non-CDL guys

My truck is a 1968 M54. At Armed Forces Day last year a State Patrol Weights and Measure man came up to me and asked if I needed a CDL to drive that truck. I gulped and said I didn't think so because of the hydraulic brakes. He gave me a lecture. He was going quickly and I didn't follow it...

    Olympic Flight Museum Military Show

Sorry for the last minute posting on this one. It is a good event that they have been doing for several years. There were about 25 vendors and a few people doing historical military displays. The crowds are considerably lighter than we might expect at a gunshow or bigger military show, but...

    Posting in Wrong Forum?

My apologies to Capt. Crank. It seems that I am guilty of having posted to this forum. After looking at the reasoning I skipped over the Post Vietnam forum, as my 1968 M54 is not a post Vietnam vehicle. Perhaps the forum name should be changed to Korea to Desert Storm 5 tons and larger...
