NLCUCV - No-Lift CUCV with HMMWV tires

Interesting. Looks pretty good like that! Can you post some close ups of what you actually cut? Cheers

    M116a2 Question

Have you asked your DMV about a one-trip tag? I don't know about your state, but in Texas, you can buy what is generically called a trip ticket for $5. It is for a one-way trip and good for 15 days. You give them some basic information on the vehicle, and haul away legally. You can get them...

    M931a2 Trailer question

As mentioned earlier, you can swap your double-axis-tilt military 5th wheel to a civilian one pretty easily. Unless you are planning to drive over some very rough off-road terrain (which might not go well with a civvy trailer anyway), you will never need that second tilt axis and it will be...

Gold winner 2014 mvpa national convention

While at the convention, I sent several pictures of that 1009 to a buddy who is restoring his to Desert Storm condition. He thought it was fantastic (and I admit to being quite positively impressed myself). He was quite tickled when I told him it belonged to a girl! Great job on the...

Hydraulic repair Trailer TM * pics added*

I didn't pay anything close to that, by about $82,600! :) The NSN came off the data plate. Same plate also says US Army, but the Marines do often buy stuff through the Army, so I don't know. The painted out areas are more consistent with obliterated Army markings. I'll peel that back in the...

Hydraulic repair Trailer TM * pics added*

Bikeman, I see that the NSN is different for that HSTRU than mine. My NSN is 4910-01-386-2021. If you have a chance, could you see if there is another manual for that, that is perhaps not classified? I appreciate your time spent already. It was nice when we could access LOGSA ourselves for...

Hydraulic repair Trailer TM * pics added*

Hydraulic repair is classified?? :) Never have figured that system out! No, I'm retired now, and its for personal use, so no classified manuals for me. I appreciate it though. Cheers

Hydraulic repair Trailer TM * pics added*

Has anyone seen a later version of the HSTRU manual than the one kindly posted by M1031CMT? I am looking for the manual for the version mounted on the M116A3 chassis. Most of the information is likely the same, but I'd like to see the book for the actual version I have. :) I imagine it...

    M1102 trailer behind a 5 ton?

Supersport is correct, they are the same. I've pulled one behind my M931A2's, looks a bit funny, but works. Cheers

    M416 - Cover Option

I like the description on their website - "tear defiant". :) I made bows for my 416 with PVC pipe. Cheap, quick, and easy. I put wooden dowels just small enough to slip inside the top lengthwise sections to keep them from drooping. None of it is glued, so I can change to Mark 2 using the...

2014 MVPA National Convention- Louisville, KY

That Russian piece turned out to be deceptively heavy when we helped push it out of the show area! Cheers

2014 MVPA National Convention- Louisville, KY

It is a great show. Lots of reeeeally nice vehicles on display. The local folks have done a good job on this one (which also applies to the previous conventions, haven't been to a bad one yet). And its nice to finally get to meet a lot of folks I have only known through SS these many years...

Did they ever make an Armored Cab upgrade package for M939 series cabs? (I.E. M923A2)

Austin, there are a bunch of up-armoured 939 series trucks at Hooks, slowly becoming one with nature. They are not pretty, but do look cool. Wish we could have some. :( Cheers

    M1101 and M1102 question

They are just stored in those brackets at the front of cargo trailers, or on top of the wheel wells on M1101/2 flatbeds. They attach (slide on-then pin) to the two square tubes that come out of the rear of the trailer to stabilize the load as stated above. Cheers

Texas to Florida with 5 ton.Eventually

On several recoveries done by myself and friends, things start out fine, then heat up later down the road (particularly on trailers). Even stuff that we have had in service for a while will suddenly decide to drag a brake and heat up. Apart from regular stops to put hands on the hubs/drums, I...

    sliding 5th wheel hitches

I just did the opposite this past weekend, removed the double-articulation 5th wheel from one of my M931A2's, replaced it with a Fontaine slider. This was done to reduce the nose height (from 13'9") on a couple of my trailers. Also to allow towing the short little M146 by getting it back away...

    Very early XM-706

Louie, your insight from an operators viewpoint has been invaluable to me (and others), I love hearing your input. My boys are well. Davey, the oldest just came home from his second, and last, combat deployment. His enlistment is up in February, and due to the Marine Corps drawdown, his MOS...

    Is this 23070?

Looks good to me! A few weeks after you paint it, it will have changed slightly too. Gillespie 383 substitute colours tend to alarm folks by having a sheen to them when newly applied, but after a week or two, it goes completely flat. I personally still consider exactly correct colour to be a...

    Very early XM-706

Later "standard" hatches? My late parts manual shows them as one piece units, but an early one mentions that the hinges are part of the kit, but separate and needing to be fitted to the vehicle (though the diagram shows them complete). One of the current V restorer/owners had some front hatch...
