Cracked Bolthole on Block for Starter

I do not think it is even possible to put a flex-plate on backwards in a CUCV and get everything lined up. I did see a dowel hole in the flex-plate that would not allow the dowel pin to go in and it was being forced into the. I seen that on a few new flex-plates. The center pilot hole never. How...

    Easter find M1008 2015

Cable size for the clamp was incorrect. And NO the clamp is positive and negative. The positive post clamp has a larger clamp then the negative. I bought 4 2/0 positive clamps and 4 2/0 negative clamps. Ruined 2 2/0 positive clamps trying to crimp them. So to answer the question NO they are...

Cracked Bolthole on Block for Starter

If you need a longer starter bolt for the starter on the 6.2. May I suggest a HMMWV starter bolt. They are longer and have the knurling on them. If you need one send me a PM I have a few new ones I bought in error for CUCV's and found out they were longer. I was able to use 4 last year on HMMWV...

    Easter find M1008 2015

I have 4 new battery clamps. I bought the wrong size. I got 2/0 and they are too big. I will exchange them tomorrow. I should have paid attention when I was ordering them. I have the batteries installed new cable clamps on the inner fenders and the slave receptacle installed. Have a great day.

This offer still stands. I never heard anything back from the other member. I posted pictures of it in the classifieds and above I believe.

    Easter find M1008 2015

Tonight I wanted to work a short while. I am tired. I ran new fuel lines to the sending unit and installed a new fuel sock and am working towards firing it up soon. I hope by the weekend to have it running and mobile. Time to get the cargo bed in the shop next. I also ran new heater hose and set...

    Front pintle hook on M1008

I have. I made a brace behind the bumper and used a pintle from an M1031. I have no pictures so i guess it never happened. I am going to design a class 3 receiver for the front so I can mount my winch fore and aft.

Cracked Bolthole on Block for Starter

Is there some difference in a GM and a NAPA flex-plate? It is a round balanced piece of steel with teeth and if it fits it works. I worked at a GM garage. When we didn't have the right parts in stock we put on the parts available. I used to like Genuine GM Parts for a Ford Chrysler. They are...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

True story. I was in Binghamton NY at a wedding. I drove my M1009 back in the late 90's it was like a new truck and had 17K miles on it. I drove the entire family up in it 5 people. The trip up was fine. it was snowing and we left the wedding reception to come home about 200 miles south. I was...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I caught mine sleeping once. I had my rust free truck parked in the barn for 10 years. I moved it outside washed it dried it and woke up the rust. I have not been able to put it back to sleep ever since. I sold the truck and it came back 4 years later and the rust had formed an army and was...

Cracked Bolthole on Block for Starter

Did you ever have one that was tight on the dowel pin of the crank? I have had that before and they seem to get a curve to them when you are tightening them. I used a stop bit on one and just enlarged the hole enough that it slipped over the dowel pin a bit easier. That dowel pin can act as a...

Cracked Bolthole on Block for Starter

And did you have the batteries load tested? If the starter is going out and gets low amperage it will not properly engage the flex plate. The crack in the mounting boss indicates a twist to the starter bolts. Like Firefox said the support bracket is key to that starter doing the job correctly...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Not to tell you what to do. But making a new brake line is a half hour job. It will take you longer figuring out how to get the wheel off and stripped bolt then it will to do the job right the first time. Do as you wish but you have a gallon of brake fluid and 2 new rear wheel cylinders. It may...

Gen 2 light / Alternator trouble fixed the hard way

Volts not jolts? I could get jolted if I up the voltage. And I am fortunate enough to have a new Snap On test tight that you do not need to ground. It is just a small probe and it uses the ground thru your body contact to complete the circuit. It is handy little thing. I bought 2 and have 1 in...

    Easter find M1008 2015

No pictures tonight. The report is a lot of boring hand sanding grille, bezels, grille trim moldings, slave receptacle, cowl screen, next it will be the bumpers, mirrors and brush guard. I worked on the engine compartment. I must get this running by the weekend. I still need a fuel sock for the...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I hope you changed the rear wheel cylinders while you were in there. Very easy to do and that would have been the time to do it. You would not believe what the rear wheel cylinders look like when they are old. Very contaminated and black and gooey. Just an idea. Less the $25. buys piece of...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Is it resistant to dirt yet? I mean does dust and dirt stick to it in the soft paint? I always feared it peeling once it gets an edge started. never done one. just curious. I have used a lot of lusterless alkyd enamel oil based paint with great results. Cleans up with mineral spirits and flows...

Where did you mount the A/C condenser? When you say behind the radiator. Are you referring towards the engine?

How does that hold up to sticks and stones? Pressure washer/car wash? And what do you use as a sealer/primer?
