The cab of the 800 series is the same as the deuce so it was easy to just start the fender there. Im guessing the axle was moved forward for weight balance.
Welcom to the site. 5tons have power steering, less tiresome to drive. Look into the CDL thing, that can be state specific and dependent on how you register and use the truck.

If you mount it this way make sure you untie it when your done playing with your truck for the day. The antenna mount on my M818 is mounted like that and its obvious the previous owner (Gov, or Nat. Guard) never untied it. The spring is permanently bent forward.
If the hard top still has some of the soft top hardware under it your good to go, soft tops sell on here at a very reasonable price. Its that hardware thats harder to find and more expensive
I know in '96 over in Kuwait the SF HMMWV's were stripped down lightweight versions with no doors or tops and had a Speedo with a tripmeter mounted on the pass side. Easier for the navigator to navigate that way.
Have you looked at the TM's we have here on this site? Its under the resources tab at the top of the page right under the STEEL SOLDIERS banner. Ive been thru the TM section a few times and dont recall ever seeing a TM listed for the tugs but then again I wasnt looking for that specific one so...
