The starter solenoids wear out. When it throws the bendix out there is a copper contact that engages the motor. I have taken bad ones apart the contacts are always pitted and burnt looking.
Just get the good led tail lights they are plenty bright. There is a 12v connector on the top back of the cab for a warning light and a switch on the dash that controls it.
If there was any military truck to do it in the LMTV would be it. 57mph is top speed though. Very comfortable ride in my opinion. Gotta do the driveline hinging procedure in the TM to check for play before a long trip like that. Check the fan clutch for play. Start with 4 good batts, good tires...
None of the trucks move when pto is engaged. A1 trucks don't need a tach the engine is computer controlled. When the pto is engaged the engine rpm is set by the computer and shift control is locked out. The wrecker wheel lift is probably ran off a driveline pto not off the side of the trans pto.
The truck is geared for smaller dual wheels. The upgrade to much larger diameter super singles give you more road speed but you loose a good amount of low end torque. Putting the truck in low range would have done the job though. I have pulled around 32k with one in low. The LMTVs are geared for...
I like the factory gearing. I would rather have the heavy pulling ability that an extra 10-15mph. It's not meant to go fast especially after dropping a big box on the back. In stock form a 4x4 can pull 40k on a sled on dirt. The 6x6 even more.
Try disconnecting the small electric fuel pumps and see if the breaker still trips. I have seen those pumps short a few different times, not on a 016 but on the mep 002 and 003 and the DC breaker always trips like that.
I don't see why the airbox can't come straight down and the tubes can be adjusted for this new location. A slim rectangular intake going to the box can be adapted if more space is needed.
The hid lights throw a bit farther than LEDs. If you swap out the ir bar for a white led bar it would be really bright. I used to prefer hid but the new civ LED lights are so bright and prices have come way down.

Wheel stem has a nut and seal. The only pain in the butt part is you have to take apart the rim. Sometimes the nut is just a little loose. You can back it off a bit, rtv and let sit till tacky, then bolt down to spec. Let sit for 24 hours before air though. You will need a new rim o ring. Rtv...
Multi loop straps. Used for strapping down vehicles and equipment in transport or securing to parachutes for air drop. They will pull what they are rated for and more all day long. I have lots of them and use them all the time for pulling stuff.
