Are there any high mileage FMTVs?

The driveshaft hinging test in the tm should be done on schedule. The u joints, yokes and slip joints wear faster than most applications. I don't believe it's something to worry about just check for play every 5k or so. It's usually a driveshaft or u joint failure and the driveshaft flying off...

    new from western ma

There is another valve behind the bumper also it's a service brake quick release valve. It can be cleaned sometimes they get stuck.

    new from western ma

That part is a check valve and a common culprit. If air bleeds out all over though, the tractor valve may need a rebuild.

    Kansas readiness placards

They generally take it apart, remove the body, sandblast and paint the frame and other metal. Test drivetrain components to see if they are in spec and replace if needed. Then put it all back together. I believe it's all done by civilians under a private military contract. Some rebuild...

Are there any high mileage FMTVs?

The one I drive has 82k on the odometer. I think on a lot of trucks the odometer gets replaced along the way. So actual mileage my be unknown. And 20k is a lot of mikes just going from the motorpool to parade deck to the "field" a few miles away for a training op.

    Kansas readiness placards

Of all the rebuilt trucks I have had the ones done at KS readiness have been the most mechanically sound trucks I have had.

Bad wiring to my regulator on my 1995 M1083

I was mistaken about the regulator 12 and 24 volt connections in the past. I had thought there was a 12 and 24 volt regulation connection. This is not the case. The regulator has 2 posts AC and 24 volt regulation. The 24 volt connection is just that. The AC is actually an AC voltage output off...

Fuel solenoid and come around the engine to the regulator.

    m1078 led headlights

You could get 12 volt headlights and be done with it. You need a power converter to step up DC. Way more work than it's worth. Plus the truck has 24 volts if you had to use the 24 volt headlights. Just a bit of rewiring. But getting the right part would be much simpler.

And that windshield will come right out with a foot push on the corner. Its not held in by much.

Re: Air pressure on the brakes of an M1081!

Tm has diagrams and there are troubleshooting flow charts. I have come across several trucks with air lines and such switched and that makes the troubleshooting flowcharts useless. Look for recently replaced parts.

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

It will be fine. Stuff gets scavenged off turn in vehicles all the time. No big deal its all small easily replaceable stuff. Hey you could always be this guy.

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

There are a few regulators that will work on that alt. I have swapped similar looking regulators around on differebt model lmtv alts without issue. I will look monday and see if I have a regulator. A lot of them just sold out of okc this thursday but I was being cheap. I did get 5 complete 200a...

    Dan's M1081 Pick-up and Build

Gotta have it made up. You can get hose barbs that fit the fittings and use generic fuel line and some hose clamps.

Re: Air pressure on the brakes of an M1081!

There is a check valve behind the bumper that will cause air loss. Clogged air dryer will contribute. Usually the 3 shuttle valves wont prevent air being built since they are service brake but a tractor valve in need of rebuild will make air bleed out all over.

    Air ride seats ?

Not really any room for them the seat mounts right to the cab floor on slim brackets. The cab itself has an air ride feature. There are 2 rear cab air shocks, one on each side, controlled by a knob on the hyd manifold and the cab front pivots with the air shock movement. Its a pretty comfortable...

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

The turning takes a few minutes to get used to. The front wheels are so far forward it turns very easily. Going from driving the m923a2 you have to wait a bit more before starting to turn or you will be taking out curbs. The lmtv air brakes feel more responsive, less delay than the m939 air...

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Yes I had seen a vid of someone sleeping in a cab when folded they ended up on the ground on the windshield. I am stripping a truck I thought it would be hard to get the windshield out but it was nothing to it.

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

When I first got the truck that I drive it had the Michelins they were fine on wet pavement. It may be different if you are working the truck with a load in it. In other news did you know with a little foot pressure the windshield comes right out. Seal and all.

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Everyone looks at the Michelins and thinks of the older style Michelins with the same style tread pattern on the M939 trucks, which are outright dangerous to drive on. But the ones on the lmtvs are newer and even though they look the same I dont think they are bad to use. They are a bit more...
