Funny, I used to be that guy deep in the weeds and deep in the mud and water. I've grown weary of the wear and maintenance required for such activity. A dirt road is fine with me. He's in good hands with you Ian, square him away.
The tailgates are such a pain to load over and if your truck is lifted, a pain to get in the back. I have a 91 burb and I would kill to have panel doors. Have the back to do the swap, just lack the time and skills.
Many questions have already been answered but I'll toss an opinion out there. Since you plan on going light, consider an axle swap. You can keep the original stuff to convert it back later if you choose. Going with an axle swap means you can match the bolt pattern on your truck. The factory...
I think someone stole a character from your VIN. I would be interested in seeing the VIN tag up on the dash behind the windshield. It would be tough to title here with a missing character. All the numbers in the VIN check out to be a 1987 M1008. There is certainly a character missing from...
Don't expect the cover to keep contents completely dry. Sit stuff up off the floor. I had to install mine on a sunny day to stretch it out. I never did devolop a like for it and sold all my covers and installed a steel topper.
Bittersweet. Would have loved to see the final takoff of the bent wing bug sucker. Sad to picture its demise. I would pay big bucks to have a short ride in the RIO seat.
55 is not a problem towing. Neither is 75 if you drop the rear driveline. Speaking of dropping the driveline, the NP208 is pretty forgiving. Westech towed an M1008 to Aberdeen without dropping the driveshafts. It just about boiled all the ATF out of the transfer case. Once cooled and...
Flipping the spring is the main part. I can't remember if I had to do anything with the helper pads or not. The rear shock mount may need to be moved but my truck was lifted so it needed mods anyways. You can affix the bed on a pickup but the wheels won't be centered. I contemplated...
No worries. Too many folks try to get the 6.2 / 6.5 to do things it was never designed to do. If folks would use them as they were designed, there would be much less complaints. As it is, I'm glad for the folks doing the swaps, keeps a steady stream of affordable parts for my projects...
Joe, is this the mechanical one or hydraulic. Since you mentioned PTO I'm going to venture a guess at a Holmes 480. I'm sure you already know this but in case you didn't, the CUCV has a 56" cab to axle measurement and the commercial wreckers have a 60" measurement. You can either move the bed...
A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush or....a pistol on the person is worth 2 in the CUCV. Security would be of paramount importance. Although I refuse to remove the rifle racks in my M1008, I will never use them for their intended purpose. A rifle is standard travel fare anymore with the...
This is an M104 or at least the box from an M104. Chassis wise the only real difference was the landing gear which is hard as heck to find. CDN had a similar trailer produced much later. From the little pics, restoration of that trailer would need to be a labor of love.
My bambalace tranny has the drain plug. Was topping off transfer case and got frustrated. Went and got another gallon sprayer and this time I filled it with ATF. Chopped the spray valve off the end of the wand. Now a half dozen pumps and I have free flowing ATF to fill the transfer case.
