Try to get one with alligator clips instead of the probes, helps when you don't have a third hand around.

Go to Pirate4x4.com and ask on their Dodge forum, but beware!! they are not the friendliest of people over there.

One other thing to consider: buying from a private individual you might be able to "haggle" with him to get the price down or get some extra things thrown in. In a GL auction its yours for the price you bid on it + 10% buyers premium.

Anyone know offhand how much cable is on the 45,000lbs winch for the back of the 5 ton wrecker? I am trying to figure out how much just the cable alone weighs. thanks

I think someone on here has done the second alternator route, someone from Florida if memory serves. Just fab up some mounts and add a pulley onto one of the other existing pulleys.

Ok I give, how did you get it off of the back? It doesn't look like a drop deck trailer and the gal is busting loose the rear binder,- so did you drive it off the back?

RE: M292A2 David the vin on the dash is 04J88690322xxxx and on the frame is 0322 xxxx. I did not get the info off of the van body yet. the van body still has the shore power cable and reel under the back end. I didn't unreel it yet to see how good it is.

I have been thinking about this conversion for awhile now. As stated above, if your keeping the original tranny then you will need a SAE#2 or 3 bellhousing for the Cummins. The Dodge engines don't have the right bellhousing. I have found that it might be cheaper to get a whole truck(Dodge)...
