Got back from California on Sat. but decided to leave the M292A2 up there instead of driving it 1,000 miles to home in NM. The tire shop I had installing my "new" tires did not have the right tubes so it took two days to get them in and install them on the truck. That only left me three days...

thanks for the offer, I got 6 good used ones shipped up to California from Berg Tire and am gonna replace the worst ones before I drive it back.
Side note: Berg Tire has excellent service!! [thumbzup]
One other thing to consider: buying from a private individual you might be able to "haggle" with him to get the price down or get some extra things thrown in. In a GL auction its yours for the price you bid on it + 10% buyers premium.
I am leaving on Saturday to go up to California and pick up my M292A2 van. Making a mini vacation out of the trip, taking the wife and kids in the "chase vehicle".
Plan on heading back on Thurs May 31st and taking the following route:
Start in Paso Robles go east on 46, to Highway99 south to...
If you want to ship it, try here: www.uship.com
I have had good experiences over there dealing with people. Sort of like an Ebay for shipping stuff.
But that having been said, I would try to fix it and drive it home. I drove my last one over 800 miles through the Mojave desert in August!!
Anyone know offhand how much cable is on the 45,000lbs winch for the back of the 5 ton wrecker? I am trying to figure out how much just the cable alone weighs.
thanks
I think someone on here has done the second alternator route, someone from Florida if memory serves. Just fab up some mounts and add a pulley onto one of the other existing pulleys.
Ok I give, how did you get it off of the back? It doesn't look like a drop deck trailer and the gal is busting loose the rear binder,- so did you drive it off the back?
Throw an old style truck mirror on there and start saving some money. I know I still kick myself for selling my very first deuce(the one I had before the one I sold to you). If it runs ok, looks are overrated!!
I am looking for that info for you by the way.
take pictures with the roll film camera and when you get them developed, tell them you want em on CD. Put CD into your computer and upload pics and post em!!
RE: M292A2
Thanks David for the info, greatly appreciated.
One other interesting thing to note - the exhaust on the LD engine runs down and under the cab like its going out the back but does a 180 degree turn beside the battery box and has a muffler attached to it before coming back out and up...
My M292A2 has tires that the sidewalls are going bad. Looks like I need all ten replaced.
Anyone have some 9.00 x 20 in very good shape that can ship them out to me?
I have to make a 1,000 mile trip twice with this truck so the tires need to be in good shape. Also I would like the tubes and...

the vin on the dash is 04J88690322xxxx and on the frame is 0322 xxxx. I did not get the info off of the van body yet.
the van body still has the shore power cable and reel under the back end. I didn't unreel it yet to see how good it is.
I have been thinking about this conversion for awhile now.
As stated above, if your keeping the original tranny then you will need a SAE#2 or 3 bellhousing for the Cummins.
The Dodge engines don't have the right bellhousing.
I have found that it might be cheaper to get a whole truck(Dodge)...
Well I flew up to Oakland this week to go put my M292A2 expandable van into storage until I can bring it home. I was in a hurry and forgot my camera so sorry no pictures. Drove it about 5 hours down to Paso Robles. It was pretty slow going, topped out at about 56 MPH down hill. It has 1800...
