Why dose everyone assume when you run a tank low your sucking more stuff off of the bottom than when it is full? It dose NOT have a foating siphon/ pickup. It is statinary and is ALWAYS sucking from the SAME spot......The Bottom.2cents

To be totaly honest, I am not %100 shure in this application. I would think on the outbound portion of the J-pipe, in the wheel well might be best but I am not shure. On our V8 chevy's they are in the headder colectors.
If that port in the exahust is placed correctly there will be a vacum created, this actualy draws the vapors out of the cranckcase in an atempt to put it in a negative pressure. The valve is there to help maintain this vacum and to help from a fire spreading.
Putting it in the exahust is nothing new. Do it all the time on hi-po engines. They make special SCAVANGING valves for this. They are basicaly a one way check valve. You can find them in summit.
Ok, here is my PROOF that the square bodied (cucv) style of truck DID come with an electronic spedo, so to answer op's question, YES there are different spedos.

OP, just so we are on the right track, EVERY spedo you are talking about is from the "square body" style of chevy (like the cucv's) regardless of year or vin code, correct?
The 10.5 mpg was on stock 9.00x 20's screw @ stock setting. The trip was mississippi to michigan at an average of 10.5-10.6 mpg. On the 395's i get about 11.2.
