The two relays your are talking about are the "Preheat" relay and the "Crank" relay. The preheat one obviously energizes when you are moving the switch to the preheat position. But it also energizes when you go to the start position with the switch. The crank relay on the other hand will only...
Yes, the stators should be the same for both generators.
When you replace the VR, the red marked wire is the critical one to get in the right location. The other two coming out of the bottom are the AC lines coming from the stator so it doesn't matter which position they are in.
Sewerzuk,
Have you had a chance to play around with your generators yet? I am curious to know if the R3 was out of adjustment, and if so, did adjusting it fix your problems???????
Lee,
Flashing the field is just a way of saying you are applying a DC voltage to the field windings of the generator head to start the generating process. And yes, another way to put it would be "polarizing".
The generator head is wound similar to a DC motor with a few variations...no...
What Ike suggested with setting it at 62 Hz is about as good as you are going to get it for the old mechanical governors. That's what I do, I run it unloaded at about 61 to 62 Hz and when it's fully loaded it drops down to between 59 and 60.
From what I saw of your first video and the %...
The oil pressure switch and other safeties are not in the circuit while you have the switch in the start position.
Sounds like it could possibly be the starter cut-out switch, Crank relay and or the starter solenoid or starter itself. It could also be the switch itself, but I doubt it. The...
Ike,
The # of loops though the CT is always the same number on the MEP-002a (twice as many as the MEP-003a). In reality, the only changes needing done when you are switching from 120 only to 120/240 are done by the volts/amps selector switch on the front of the panel. The CT doesn't really...
I'll second that, Mike in McCoy (member of the forum too) is one of the best GL guys to deal with.
Just make sure you have your insurance and paperwork in order and drive her home. I know I'm probably pretty far off of your route (South East Ohio), but if you need any assistance feel free to...
send me a PM and I'll e-mail it to you. That one is not in the tech manual section for some reason.
Your meter could be reading incorrectly, but keep in mind that these things are not and never were known for their extreme accuracy. The signal going to the meter is a product of the CT/CVT...
I'm gonna have to jump on the MEP-002 and MEP-003a bandwagon. The MEP-003a's are the best things I've seen in a long long time.
If you want something small to fit under a truck, you'll probably have to go civilian to get that. Maybe something out of a construction light plant?
There is a mod you can do using a Mazda starter and one with I believe a Ford probe starter. IIRC the Mazda mod is much easier to do. Join the 4a032 yahoo group and search through previous posts....it's in there somewhere.
I think you might have a harder time finding parts for the 802a for the time being since they aren't getting surplused out as much yet. And IIRC from looking at the TM, most of the electronic components in the 802a are recommended to be replaced if found to be faulty, where-as the electronics...
Westy,
If you are coming to Ohio to pick up Gimpy, would there be any way you could hook up with Lane and bring my floodlights to Cincy with you? I know lane is pretty far northeast of you, but I thought I would ask. maybe you two could work something out?????????????
Thanks
Not quite, The relay trip is a function of how much current is flowing through the coil of the relay and nothing more. The main contacts of the breaker act as switching contacts ONLY.
If you look at the schematics for the 003a you'll see that the current going through R3 is produced by a...
