#1 tip, New Cork (or equivilant) wedge in the key way.
mine where doing the same thing. I cleaned & repacked the berrings using the old seals, installed new wedges and havent had any problems since.

tomarrow i am going to pick up a mercedes 3.0l turbo diesel (120hp) and i am thinking this is going to be the new heart for the m37. I can get the auto trans with the engine but i would like to keep the truck with a stick (preforably a 5 speed w/ od)
