Whats a cable adapter? If it's the clevis, they are kind of a "one time install" only thing.. I've never been able to get one apart after a load has been applied to it. I think thats by design for safety....
how much fuel was in the tank? The fuel arround the pump/motor assembly helps cool the motor.. Thats why at about 1/2 a tank, you should refuel. Those that like to "drive to E" arent helping their pump's motor live a long life..

When you think about it, most of our trucks have been sitting around since the day they were made. I spent some hours climbing on Sammy's GOERs... The wrecker one was neat. Good thing is that if you buy a few, you'll have plenty of parts to make a good one or so.
