    New in Austin Texas

Welcome aboard. I drive down 51st past your unit pretty much every day! There is a local guy who has some engines to sell, he'll run it for you before you buy it so you know what you are getting. Give me a PM and I'll get you his info and arrange an introduction. He can be kinda grumpy at...

    FMTV vrs LMTV

Thanks Leonard! That all stands to reason, particularly with the many different versions of the 5-ton, some of which, like the wrecker, must be very heavy. Would we be safe saying most of the rear axle parts are the same? Cheers

    FMTV vrs LMTV

As far as I know, yes. The goal was as much parts commonality between versions as possible, which they seem to have achieved. But, as always, I stand to be corrected! :) Cheers

    FMTV vrs LMTV

FMTV stands for Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles and refers to all of them, regardless of which model or weight capability (M1078, M1083, etc.). LMTV stands for Light Medium Tactical Vehicle and refers to the 2.5-ton/2-axle version. (M1078, 1079, M1080, etc) The 5-ton/3-axle versions (M1083...

    sherwin williams carc type 1

The colours listed (Green 34094, brown 30051, and black 37030) are the correct ones for the 383 3-colour camo, how your avatar truck is painted. Since the stuff fades fairly readily, a touch up on your truck probably won't match exactly, at least until it has been in the sun for a while. Cheers

    Right brake grabs & locks

Something else to check- the pins that hold the caliper on. When I picked it up, my 'pretty' M1009 dived for the right ditch on brake application (alarming, and enough to immediately deadline the truck pending repair). Turns out the drivers side front caliper is only held on by one of the...

    Identify Military ARV Light?

I'm looking for some information on this light, which I acquired recently just because it was interesting. Looking at it, it is obviously a safety device of some sort, with a red steady or flashing light and an MV-type reflector. From searching for the NSN I find it listed as BII on the M88...

    50' Slave Cable ???

If I recall, one of the last times that anvilconda came out there was some 30-40 feet of gooey mud between where you could park your 1009, and the M813 that needed a jump. All the extra cable was useful that night (not that I would know whose truck needed slaving..). Cheers

    Korean War Brass Transportation

We'd love to see it! Those are very cool aeroplanes. If you have "as the project advances" pictures, post them up, those would be very interesting. It will save you getting the much dreaded "this post is worthless without pics" icon too! Cheers Edit- I see one pic now...

3 color desert paint on m1009

Welcome aboard gents, and Semper Fi brother to you, MSgt! The M109 is in the old MERDEC desert camo. MERDEC (or MERDC, often referred to as 4-colour camo) was used from early to mid-70s until mid-80s when the 3-colour started to replace it. It tends to survive in Guard units, it seems. My...

    New V-100

Now I feel bad Tim.. Not like we didn't think about you though. We figured you would be at work at that time of day (0915) so didn't think you would be able to join us, could you have? Didn't know your school was that close to the highway either! Next time? Cheers

    New V-100

Thanks Jim. :p (Edit - this was originally for the silly stuff Jim posted about what thumbs up means around the world, which I thought was funny, but now he has taken it away! Still works for the above) This was Texas thumbs up which means- 1: Cool, or; I like that, or; looking good, or...

    New V-100

Scott, ya twit! No, it was real, not an April Fools trick, and I have pictures to prove it! Latest update- Today I took Scott up with me so he could finally see the fabled beast in person. He can no longer cast doubt upon its existence since we actually took it out and drove it. That was a...
