Anybody score the M1008 with dual wheels

I should have bid on it, but that is life. It would have been easy to move the axles and bed to my M1008... giving me a little sheetmetal for a future Chevy pickup, chassis parts, a Dana 60 and a 14 bolt, I really was not thinking....

    cucv engine idle

Personally, I would like all of mine set like the original M1008 was and I would gladly take the extra noise. That was an awesome truck that ran cheap and had great power! I doubt my neighbors cared for the early wake up calls though. My current M1008 could almost pass for a gasser.... Glen

Anybody score the M1008 with dual wheels

I have friends in the salvage and wholesale car business. I am pretty sure by the time I got the swapping done, they would have a title for me. The truck looked pretty solid, makes one wonder why they did not fix it or why they chose that one to scavenge parts off of. My M1009 runs as nice as...

    cucv engine idle

I have three now, two M1009s and a M1008 and had a fourth one, a M1008. The original M1008 had a substantial knock and normally ran right at 18 mpg. The M1009 in this video has a more pronounced knock than the other two I own and it usually runs around 20 mpg combination driving. My other M1009...

Anybody score the M1008 with dual wheels

It was a M1028, but GL had it listed as a M1008...

Anybody score the M1008 with dual wheels

They had one listed wrong and had no engine or transmission. I was very tempted, just the hassle of getting it home.... I sure would have liked to drop my 6.2 and 400 in there out of the Utah M1009.... My son would have loved that transaction, he wants my M1008 so bad... I hope somebody here...

    starting and chattering

The second line of the original post was...... "It runs quite well but to get it going for a test drive we had to do the beating of the starter with a hammer." Which nobody else addressed. If he is having starter trouble and rapping it with a hammer gets the starter to work, then it is...

    starting and chattering

Beating on the starter and making it work usually means the brushes are shot. Take it to a good starter/alternator shop and have it rebuilt. It will not take much and if done properly will work better and longer than most replacements you will buy. Glen

    cucv iii

I was drooling today! This thing rolled through my beat and I followed until they stopped, hoping they would stop before they left town! It has a Duramax diesel, automatic, a/c, radio, lots of attachment options, nice comfortable seats with armrests. I really like the front bumper and grill...

    6.2 Diesel in a M-37?

The 6.2 is comfortable running at the Cummins governed rpm, with the ability to turn much higher if needed. You do not want to be running over 2400 all the time, but an occasional run over 3,000 or even 3,600 should not kill the 6.2. I am talking about if you need to pass something or want to...

    6.2 Diesel in a M-37?

I can see the 4BT appeal. Big power and economical as well as indestructible. I think the 6.2 would make a nice powerplant as well. The 37 is low geared with fairly weak axles and poor brakes. A 6.2 would not just blow the axles away. It would also be nice and smooth as well as economical to...

    Carc question

I have a water based CARC alternative on my M1008, but it is much smoother in texture than the original paint. It is fairly flat, but does not have that sand paper feel. Glen

    what to replace at 77,000

I jump people with mine, I just disconnect the cable between the batteries and jump off of the battery closest to the radiator....unless it is another 24 volt truck of course.....

So what, exactly, keeps the turbo pressure of 6.2s at 10 psi??

They are not rpm friendly. They will run a long time in a high geared application, but they cannot take the high rpm of the low geared applications. Some of the 2wd Suburbans and pickups with the OD transmission would roll 75 to 80 mph for over 300,000 miles. My Buddy has the same opinion as...

    M35A2 Deuce's towing power

I helped this guy load the old tanker on that trailer and he took of for Lawrence Kansas, ripping right down the Interstate. Three and a half hours later he called to tell me he was home. It is about 150 miles, so he had to average over 40 miles per hour. I was surprised when the phone rang and...

    m1009 front axle ?

All that stuff is gone, the doors are gone, tailgates are gone, engines are gone, transmissions are gone. There is a shattered transfer case. Rifle racks are gone, some have wheels, but they have been sitting on the ground. The fuel filters and bases have been removed, the beds are full of scrap...

    m1009 front axle ?

Thanks, I know where there are three M1009s with no front axles headed for the crusher, the rear axles are still there. Maybe I can talk him out of some parts. Very tough guy to buy from though. Glen

easy load up of a 5ton wrecker

They are amazing tools! When I went to Iowa to get one of my M715s, the GSA guy loaded it on the trailer with a wrecker. Picked it up, swung it over, boomed down and extended the boom... Somehow I do not think it was his first dance with the wrecker. He did not waste much winch time, nor did he...
