In Norway for 'real' winter, we used a water soluble whitewash to cover one of the 45% colours, pretty much at the drivers discretion which one as it worked well with either the green or brown showing. For heavy snow areas, you just slathered the whole vehicle in it. The white got streaky...
Yeah, but summer here isn't particularly green!
Back when that was the standard camo scheme, just about everything at Ft Hood was in the Winter pattern year round. Same on Camp Pendleton.
Cheers
Yep, that's it Sam. That is also the scheme the first V100s I saw in the flesh at Camp Bullis were painted (1981?) when we went there for a BnFX, they looked very nice. It is an excellent scheme for Central Texas.
Here is the Summer scheme, which is also what we used "down south". The colour...
Jason, that is a very nice M151. To me it looks "right" in that scheme, I don't recall ever seeing one of our M151s in the 3-colour scheme, though a lot of our other vehicles were being delivered/painted in that scheme in the mid-80s. I have a soft spot for the M151 because those and M880s...
I didn't quote the # for the black, 37038, because to me flat black is, well... flat black. The two major pattern colours each comprise 45%, the sand and black are 5% each. Should have mentioned that I guess.
For the Tropic scheme Halftrack mentioned, replace the Field Drab with Dark Green...
The green is Forest Green 34079, the brown is Field Drab 30118. The 5% sand is 30277.
I believe that your shop truck is in the pattern manual, but the M35 bed is not, though I'm pretty sure I have it somewhere, I'll look. Might be best to photograph it well.
I always liked those schemes...
Trust me Tim, there is PLENTY of stuff left for you! And I only picked up one of the ladders for Sam.
All I intended to get were the tow-bar pins and that item Sarge was picking up. But I walked away (okay, carted in Sarge's infamous Suburban) a good haul of booty. Most of the stuff...
It is a 'bright' colour for use in darker spaces like vehicle interiors where there are small or no windows, etc. Basically so you can see well inside with limited ambient light from outside, or from a limited numer of interior lights.
It replaced the white interior of US armour in the mid-60s...
Okay, suitably abashed after my faux pas with the tow pins, I am now in possession of no less than three of these, courtesy of Sermis (thank you!). I am now prepared to do things properly the next time.
Oh, and I won't take any pictures of the tow bar until after I have attached the chains...
With the 12" shorter wheelbase on the M818 (167" v 179" for the 813) and the 12" shorter bed of the 14' 813 v the 15' bed on the Marine 813s, it looks like your truck has about the same rear overhang as mine. Very practical size and still aesthetically pleasing. And you can get a one-piece...
Actually Bjorn, surprisingly enough they apparently were rather pathetic in sand. I would have thought it would plow ahead, but on tests it just tended to throw sand everywhere and barely move.
Cheers
Actually, Sarge was quite receptive of the idea, and a little guilty feeling for not posting the story sooner. One of those things where you just don't realize how much time is passing, and how quickly, while you are telling yourself "I must get that done".
So, look for it in the...
The bottom one in the first set of pictures looks like that new amtrac the Marines are being stuck with. Is it?
Great pictures, thanks for posting them. Those tanks look beautiful.
Cheers
Driver, for this and the V100 photo thread I deeply thank you. We really appreciate you taking the time and effort required to record the stories and share those fantastic photos.
Cheers
Cruz, I really like your trailer. Is that an M814 (or the 900 equivalent) bed on another trailer frame? With an M818 looming in my future, a trailer like that would be very useful.
Cheers
Edit- Okay, your edit answered my question while I was still typing!
Welcome aboard and a nice recovery Duncan. I think you were wise to rent the lowboy to haul it back, it is much easier to have problems with a "new" truck near home rather than on an 1800k road trip.
Those T813's are lovely looking trucks, and appropriately named Kolos! Enjoy and take lots...
