    Another gear thread

The GM overdrive transmission is a pretty good unit, but cost prohibitive to get set up for most of us. I was talking about just swapping a set of axles out of a Suburban or Civilian gas Blazer or 1/2 ton pickup. Most of the guys are talking about a ring and pinion swap, front and rear. Glen

    Another gear thread

Keep your eyes peeled for a 4x4 1/2 ton pickup, or Suburban. I saw a few get crushed in the last six months and thought about grabbing some axles for future trading power or to help a fellow member out with. You might get lucky and score a set for less than you can buy the ring and pinons for. I...

I painted my CUCV yesterday. (pics)

Sure would look good sitting in my driveway! I like it... Glen

    Ebay claims again-wow

That thing is a big old yeller bellied sap... it never hurts to turn a little profit... Somebody spent a lot of time cleaning and painting, well, painting.... looks like it is going away too...

Missouri salvage yard or dealer on I-70?

We have stopped there several times. I am headed that way this weekend, I will try to grab a few shots. The inside of the building was packed with all sorts of surplus goodies, but that has been a few years ago. He needs another checking out...

    MAJOR repair job

I found a large cooler filled about half full of water so it does not slide so easily works great. Sure beats trying to balance on my toes on the locking hub.....

    Odd Place for Fuel Leak

Intake, that big aluminum spider... The regular fuel lines are about impossible to service with it in place, maybe truly impossible...

    Odd Place for Fuel Leak

I know you said your intake pan had some fuel on it. Be sure to watch that lift pump at the right front of the block. Behind the radiator hose and in front of the right engine mount. I had one that was weeping and the fuel would drip on the front cross member. The fan would then blow it back...

    Odd Place for Fuel Leak

Yes, you have to remove the intake to service it. Also there are bolts that pass through from the crancase breather tube hole in front. Hopefully, you just need the hose. Glen

    Still not sure...

Check for the brackets that support the hitch. The rear of a CUCV is pretty well boxed in with braces for the lift shackles and the hitch.

    2010 Kansas Steel Soldiers rally

Any cost to enter a vehicle or get a vehicle onto the museum grounds? Just trying to decide if we are bringing one or three. Glen

My CUCV is running just fine thank you!

My M1008 has been super since I picked it up last year. Lately it has been getting tested, my 17 year old has been driving. My M1009 has been great as well and this latest M1009 is smoking the other two on mileage. Life has been good, I had to change glow plugs on the M1008 and the first...

    willys help

I think it is just a spring latch. One of mine had a hinged seat that stayed attached and the other had slots, you tipped the seat forward and lifted it out of the bracket.

    willys help

They are super simple! I put a 350 in one in my wilder days and when you could still find nice ones parked in yards and garages all around the country. To tell you how long that has been, the 350 was a new size for Chevrolet.... Coupled with a 465 Muncie truck transmission and an adapter to the...

    M1009 search

My latest M1009 from Utah is a wonder machine. Easy 65 mph cruising and it has been running 22 mpg. My buddy had been driving it since we arrived home on the 21st, I saw it again yesterday and he has put over 1,000 miles on it. That is just fine with me. It was nice knowing as I was coming...

    14 bolt pinion help

Just wait until you catch it just right while backing up and stopping just as it is about to skip into the next locking notch. You drop it in drive and the driveshaft sounds like a bell ringing. I find it is especially bad backing with the front wheels turned right, then taking off to turn left...

    14 bolt pinion help

I am betting it is okay. Both of mine are about like you describe. When we put Detroits in the Dana 70s in our M715s, they felt like they would turn a half turn on the shaft. They were not that bad, but being used to a regular differential, we were wondering if we had committed some serious...

    14 bolt pinion help

Does your K30 have the Detroit? They have more free play than any other differential I have owned. Glen
