    Yes the resistor reduces 24 to 12 volts. With the ignitor cover off, stick a solid wire core ignition wire into the coil tower and crank, this will remove the cap and wires from the equation for diagnostics.

    Your VIN is the same as the mfg serial number M14479 which will also be stamped in the frame by the left front spring shackle. Go to your DMV and have them run the number. If it comes back with no data, ask them the process for lost title.

    I looked, your s/n is not there but it appears the change from 1964 to 1965 happened around s/n 10600 so you have a 1964 which was a great year to be born in.

    This happens due to air getting sucked into the system in return lines that have pinhole leaks that don’t drip for some reason.

    On the ex-military fire equipment I maintain, I fixed mounted the two BatteryMinders with a 110v whip cable that the fire crews know to disconnect just like on the pumpers.

    All looks good to me. The 24 volt version has that rubber waterproof connector. If for some unknown reason they installed a 24 volt solenoid in there, worst case it won't pull in.
