To answer Matt's question ..... I was describing what happens IF the engine would shut down....;-)
No "slack" at all and very precise, normally...

..... Ever tried to steer a Dodge Ram 2500 with the motor shut down?
Our case is more or less the same situation, you would have to "fight" the wheel with now only 3 1/2 to 4 turns stop to stop instead of almost 6 turns, stock.
Plus there is a considerable amount of slack now (about 1/4...
Matt, thanks for that info, it can never be too much!
Glad to know these parts are "popular" and still available/serviceable.
Yes, I had bought some seal kits just in case and it is very easy for most of them to install them yourself. That goes for the ones for valve head, st. shaft...
kochevnik: just saw the link and application chart you had posted: very interesting info, everything we always wanted to know... have a lot to read and learn now..... thank you!:-D
According to the press. & flow specs on page 86 the HF54 needs min. 3.2GPM and max. 6.0GPM at max. 1500psi, so the...
No problem with those cut-off frame pieces. (Reuse, recycle, rebuild....!:-D)
This conversion IS "doable" w/good results.....! Here some pics.........

Chin... or US, reb. or new, DOT3 or DOT5.... my 2cents: put a liberal amount of silicone grease between pistons and rubber dust shields before installing. Same for the MC.
Corrosion (-> stuck pistons) often originates right there due to water condensation. Not to mention (liquid) water entering...
YES, they do...!
NO, the ones listed are all "waiting" on the shelf, for future similar projects.
The only one not suitable is the 044.
Wish I could help with that, they are scarce!
Good luck finding one!
I took plenty of detail pics during my second conversion, if anyone is interested...

Couldn't find them at Napa but any parts store should be able to get them fast.
Attached is a chart with the referred wheel bearing part#s and dimensions.
Beware, some of the mentioned parts vendors sell Chinese bearings... !:-x Look for brands like Timken (USA), NTN, FAG, SKF, etc. (Part#s...
For specs of a typical 5ton MF pump see my post#14 here:
I know of variants out there, limited to only 1000psi but slightly higher capacity.
Specs of such a pump are added below. (This particular pump was successfully used in a similar case by SS-member Baxter, maybe he could chime in....?)
I...
Arbuckle: found the stamped letters, at the bottom part of the housing..... would be nice to know how to decode them.
Following are the numbers of the boxes I have at hand:
1) HF54050 041 8
2) HF54050 235 79
3) HF54050 303 79 (pictured installed)
4) HF54050 ?????
5) HF54043 136 7 W/...
Oops.....! that was for the output shaft seal but.... yes, it could as well be the front shift shaft seal that's leaking.
That would be a .688" shaft x 1.25" O.D. x .25"H, also double lipped preferred!
Here some brands/part numbers for this size and type:
TIMKEN, NATIONAL #471538...
This is a common, standard size seal: 2 1/16" O.D., 1 1/4" shaft diam., 7/16" thickness.
Other vendors have this as well. You probably will get the one pictured which I would avoid installing... not because it is made in Taiwan but mainly because it is only a single lip seal! Try to find one...
Sorry Bear but actually this is how it was designed: the dogbones can only control caster and axle housing paralelism, they do NOT restrict lateral displacement of the axles at all. That's why I disagreed at first when you suggested to also replace those to cure the OP's problem. (they are...
I'm afraid to disagree....! With no wear on the center pivot shaft, bearings or newer style bushings replaced and correct adjustment he will hardly notice any lateral displacement while turning and no misalignment at all after completing a turn.
It is very easy to check the condition of the...
