Hi All,
The day of my scheduled load out finally arrived :smile:, and it went off without a hitch. Made the 540 mile round trip in about 13 1/2 hours total, made a pit stop at the parents house to say "hey" along the way.
I met Matt from GL today at Chambersburg, you guys were right...
My personal preference is the open units, I'm sure that the ASK does a great job of sound deadening but since I have had to purchase mine sight unseen as well, I like to inspect the pictures in the auction very, very closely. Compare the pictures with others that are up for auction and look for...
I think you'll get a much better deal if you can find an event where they are selling a bunch of them at one time. Also, I would say if you're looking for one with the enclosure, go and preview the set personally or have someone trustworthy do it for you. The military is terrible about...
Just my 2cents but I think it should be fine. Sounds like you're leaving way more air space that the ASK's leave. I would just make sure you're not recycling the warm air inside your enclosure, shed or whatever. It's going to get warm inside the building with the set running so I'd make a...
I know they are "cleanable", and I've seen the thread about the spin-on retrofit as well. I have a lot of free time on my hands right now, and thought it would be fun to find all of the correct replacement filters to use.
For that price I'm not buying one unless the others get trashed, but I...
I was doing some research into parts for a complete fluid change for my soon to be acquired (Wednesday) Mep-003a gensets. I came across some interesting information and thought I should share it with the group. This strainer is used on a LOT of the diesel equipment the military has. I know...
Congrats Dave,
Sounds like you get a h**l of a deal. I can't wait to pick mine up on Wednesday morning. I've already got the filters and such as that, I'm going slow and giving it the complete once over before trying to fire it up though, new oil and filters all around. Sure could've used it...
Avn-Tech,
When you say "later" military generators automatically flash the field, what year approximately did they start doing it automatically? I was lucky enough to win two Mep-003a's that are supposed to be of early 90's production, just curious.
I haven't made the appointment yet,
I'm thinking Wednesday or Thursday next week. Do they have equipment to load them? I haven't decided if it will be easier to try to side load with the fork lift, or use the lifting eye and set them on the trailer. The trailer has fenders, and thoughts???
Chet,
I'd be interested in that information about the spin on filter as well, if you don't mind. Even though my sets are the 003's I think the oil filters are the same.
:grin::grin: My EUC cleared this evening, a mere 13 days from submission to approval. Not too bad I think. Now I get to head over to Chambersburg, PA and pick-em up. I'll post some pics after I get them home and let ya'll know about the progress getting them running. I've got two units...
I believe you can run drills and small power tools with it because the tools use a 1/2 wave bridge rectifier to convert the power to DC for easy speed control. If the tool uses the trigger for speed control or if you know for a fact that it has "brushes" you should be able to run it.
I have to agree with some of the other posters here, $900 isn't over priced if you can get it running, and producing power easily and cheaply. Also, the more they are selling in one event the better the chances of getting a better price. I just purchased 2 mep-003a's out the door for just shy...
The current rating for the mep-004a is 52 amps @ 120/208 volts 3 phase, and 26 amps @ 240/416 volts 3 phase.
Keep in mind that these gen-sets do not have a reconnection switch and are meant to be strictly 3 phase units ( not single phase in the conventional sense of having 240 volts phase to...
I don't know if it's true or not but I read on the Smokstak forum that the starting capacity was about 300% rated load. From the figures that sounds about right.
I called Onan this morning and asked about oil for the air cooled generator engines and the parts guy told me to use 15w-40. I am going to call back though after I am able to pick up my sets and give then the engine serial numbers and see what kind of documentation (maybe parts manuals directly...
Rat,
You're right again about the three phase, for some reason I always keep forgetting about the 1.73 multiplier for three phase.
But that still leaves 12.5KW no matter whether it's configured single phase or three phase. 120x104=12.5KW same for 240x52. There seems to be no de-rating...
