:ditto: There is no need for an outer seal either on the front but I have seen them installed from the military. Guess it may help to keep water out of the bearings if it gets past the boots but other than that there is nothing to seal on that end.

You did shim the PTO didn't you? If you just added a gasket and bolted it on I'd check it before I ran the truck much.

Some say add the grease and some say don't. When I did mine I put the grease back in there. I was worried about the thrust washer lubrication. The military must have thought the grease needed to be there too. When I tore mine down the housing was full of grease.
