If the cable gets loose and crossed up really bad and one layer gets over another layer it can get stuck pretty good. Make sure it's just bound up on itself and not something else, hook the end to a tree, and back the truck up with the winch dog disengaged and drum lock out. You should be able...
I'm pretty sure I've got one with the mid style. It's the one with the skids and wheels. I'm also sure it is adjustable. The crank comes out the side instead of the back like the late style.
Both of my trailers have the two small wheels so I've never used a big wheel. If I'm not mistaken the big wheel doesn't have a jack to raise and lower it. That could be one reason. Another reason could be that they weren't heavy enough. You say that it's alot easier to lift but alot of the big...
Even though you can multiply the pull of the winch the load on the cable never goes up. If you use a block and double the pull to 20,000lbs there is still only 10,000lbs on the winch and cable. There will be some loss due to friction but it wouldn't be much. The only way to increase pull is to...
Most of the time you can. It depends on your state. Some states will let you use a bill of sale for vehicles over so many years old. There are also title companies that can get you a title for a fee. Some states it's really hard to get a title without a SF-97.
Are the tractor pistons even available? If so give it a try and post results.
I'm thinking just a piston swap won't work but I could be wrong. Does anybody have a pic or dimensions of a tractor piston?
Anybody know what a complete front winch weighs? I've got a guy wanting to buy a complete winch setup I have and we are trying to figure the weight for shipping. I need to ship the winch, brackets, PTO, bolts, and driveshaft.
If all you were wanting to do is lower compression I wonder if you could add a spacer between the block and head? Don't know how thick it would need to be but if it's too thick you would have to have longer pushrods if you don't have enough adjustment on the rockers. Wonder if the multifuel...
Looks like every pic of the mess area has Gimpy there stuffing his face .
Was going to try and make it down there this year but it finally dried up around here so I had to stay home and shell corn. After looking at these pics looks like I really missed out :-(. Oh well, there's always...
You will have to change more than the pistions. Atleast the injectors and maybe the whole head. The injectors squrit into a "hole" in the pistons on a mulitfuel and won't work with any other piston design. If I were going this route I'd try and find a complete tractor engine and swap it out.
I don't like putting ether in anything unless it has a ether injector and I'm still not real crazy about that. Seems if you use ether very much it will get to where you'll have to use it even in warm weather. DO NOT use ether and the flame heater together.
The multifuel (due to high...
Ian, I appreciate you taking the time to keep us updated on this project. There is a wealth of info on here to find out anything you need to know about the trucks. There are also a bunch of pics of modified trucks that may give you some ideas.
IMO the one piece wheels are easier to change if you have a set of tire irons and a duckbill hammer. Seems the bigger the tire the easier it is to change when it comes to one piece wheels.
If you go tubeless you want a one piece wheel and not a split ring. While they did make some split ring tubeless wheels they had a o-ring that can cause problems and be hard to seal. 22.5 in tubless is a direct replacement for a 20 tube type. They are easy to change also as long as you have a...
I used to know where several yards were in my general area. Sadly they are just about all gone due to the high scrap prices a year or so back. The ones that still have parts think they are made of gold. I've had my best luck posting that I need a part on this site and I've always found somebody...
