It is easier to get power using a modern 4 valve EFI engine with VGT and charge air cooler vs an old 2 valve mechanical engine with just a simple yet hot aftercooler. The EFI can spray 5 separate pulses per combustion event, to reduce noise, emissions, increase power, cold startability, etc...
Superb contribution.
So for an M939A2, are all parts required to switch to S cam readily available as off-the-shelf service parts, or must the "kit" still be purchased? This question is mostly pertaining to the rears, thanks.
You’ll basically be removing the circuit board and connecting the solenoids as they are in a PCB box without the circuit board. Simplistically, each solenoid is controlled from each dash switch. One for dash power and one for starter engagement.
You’ll want solenoids that are rated for 24V...
The small circuit board is there to prevent starter re-engagement on an already running engine. It looks at either AC output of the alternator or feed from an oil pressure switch. It can be eliminated. I’ll have to look at the schematic to do so. Give me a short amount of time, if listed in...
Correct on strike location. TedCat hit mine so hard I thought the bracket was going to break. No tension on it, dropped right out. 1-2 hits per. I used a wood splitting wedge and piece of 1 by wood to pre-tension my others, I did not hit them as hard as he did.
Easiest way is to use a tow strap on the wrench and a vehicle to pull the tow strap with. One person to hold the wrench on squarely and strap onto end of wrench, then one person pulling slowly on strap with another vehicle. Go slow, once broke free it will turn easily. I used a forklift in my...
That weld looks dam good for what we're doing with it. 2nd place in the beauty contest is still a hottie. Nice job.
Ajax you can borrow mine for a refundable deposit, but you can't hang onto it forever. Let me know once you are ready and have all your parts including the time to do so, and...
You’re right, screw is initial, and star wheel is rate. Some have taken the jamb nuts right off the back of the main fuel rack and been fine, depends on how much load you will pull and if you want to drive by the EGT gauge or not.
It is huge, the size of a small locomotive. All aluminum body. Really nice, zero rust. Catwalks are aluminum as well. This was made when metals were low cost.
Yep, that’s why I bought it. The Cat 1693 engine that the owner is keeping and the 3 air locking 5t/7t axles are the only thing worth any money on it. I’d gladly donate the rest of it for scrap value to the owner of another.
