Official 2018 Ga. Military Vehicle Rally info thread. Oct. 17-21, 2018

Welder1 and I will be staying at Kaye's Keep if you can't find us on the trails or in the Swap Meet. It's the big cabin across from the Lodge. Running the trucks hard 3 months out has revealed a few cracks but I'm on top of them. I really need to send my insurance and registration information...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Cleaning the check valve did the trick. It was running great until I put an additive called Multilube Diesel Fuel Conditioner in it. We use it at work on every diesel we store for over 90 days. Semi-Legal Disclaimer, I'm not advocating that it's anything other than a guy peeing in a jug out...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I'm having a fueling issue with mine currently but I think I'm making progress. It shut off going down the road on an ice cream trip last night with Lee and my youngest son. It made it home under it's own power. Once stalled and shut off it would start right back up and run strong as ever. I...

    m1079 12v power????

The newer ones have a convenience outlet on the passenger side dash. One issue I see in the National Guard is people plugging their phones up to the outlet when the truck is parked for a few days. I'm sad to say that a smart phone can kill an LMTV within a few days of not running the truck. I...

    Muffler for M35A2

That's probably how I would have done it if I were by myself. My friend owns his own welding and fabrication business and is very meticulous about the work he turns out. What I thought would be a 30 minute process turned into about a 3 hour process. He kept saying "it's going to look factory...

    Muffler for M35A2

Support Bracket I don't see a support bracket for the muffler in your picture. I modified the factory one by adding a piece of bar stock and fabricating a band clamp to go around the outside of the muffler. Now I wish I would have taken pictures during the process but this one will give you...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

If I broke my foot a second time messing with this old mess, there would be a free to good home thread for anything MV related. I plan on keeping the wheels spinning and the beavers grinning!!! Quoted Smokey and the Bandit for that line!

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Almost towed the M1028 CUCV home. I did intercept and follow them home. My better half went down the road in it to get my little buddy a scoop of ice cream. CUCV started losing power going down the road and shut off turning into a parking lot. Almost got hit but luckily she got into the...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Thanks kindly Simp, if mine doesn't show a bad leak once everything is cleaned up it will wait some time. I never did change the head gasket on my Deuce when it started leaking at the passenger side front of the block. I ran it 5 years and sold it that way. No rust will ever take hold of the...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

My truck has developed a slight oil leak at the front of the engine. It appears to be coming from the accessory drive seal, leaking down the front cover and blown down the drivers side of the engine block / oil lines / etc. I've got to clean everything up and see just how much of a leak it is...

    G177 tires on Deuce

They can be dualed Pictured is Elijah95's truck while it was still owned by Atomic. Taking these tires off 5 ton wheels wasn't bad. Breaking down old tires off of the deuce rims was a pain but that's what friends are for. I was glad when we finished that project.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

PMCS then 62 miles of around town / riding through the country driving. Went to recycle cans but they were closed, ate breakfast, returned and my little buddy got paid $11 dollars. Then went to 2 different Wal-Marts to find a book he wanted. Stopped by the Pilot to fill up and rode through...

    5 ton camber adjustment

First 5 pictures are as my truck currently sits this afternoon. If you look closely at the pictures of the individual tires, you can see a slight amount of positive camber that looks pretty even on each side. Pictures 6 and 7 are just random photos of the front end from days ago and picture 8...

    5 ton camber adjustment

I have on my truck, no unusual slop or freeplay during annual services. I've never launched it through the air, not sure about the OP's truck.

    5 ton camber adjustment

I don't know if offset kingpin bushings are available for these axles or not. When viewed from the front, the top of the tire is leaned further out than the bottom on my truck. It drives just fine down the road but I have noticed a slight amount of cupping on the tire. I'm just going to move...

    m915a1 runaway engine

Dealing with the OP's problem, he's losing prime which causes the extended start times. He's got a fuel line that is sucking air. I've never understood why a Cummins PT Fuel system sucking air will cause them to run at a higher idle and be slow to return to idle. They are also slow to respond...

    m915a1 runaway engine

I agree with Simp. My truck is slow to return to idle but if I pull the pedal up by hand, it's nearly instant. It doesn't affect driveability and it always settles to it's normal idle within about 3 seconds so I've not put any effort into fixing it.
