Where I live, the trucks sit all winter without starting until the spring. We don't use them mainly because of the road salt, and mine needs a going-over for next year. Having seen this done for years on jeeps and 3/4 tons, I don't think there's much harm in letting them sit for a few months...
I would love to have a multifuel in my life at some point! I'd love to have an M35A2 as a truck show companion for my A3 and as a place to dump WMO in!
I didn't do any fab work at all. The batteries more or less sit there. I could probably figure out a way to strap them down without modifying the battery box, but I don't drive the truck hard enough to the point the batteries would be bouncing around anyway.
I run a pair of group 34 batteries in my deuce. I don't think you really need more than 600 CCA per battery because the starter doesn't pull that many amps, unless it's old and tired I suppose.
I'll have to get this checked out now. Although my jerk may be different from the other guy's jerk. Probably best for me to get it checked out at the local Allison shop and have them do the ATF conversion as well!
You could use M35A2 bearings on an M35A3, but you wouldn't be able to use the CTIS then. That's what makes the A3 bearings special. I'm not concerned about spare parts being hard to find as the A3 still has a ton of parts in common with the A2. I'm only concerned about cost of said parts...
The MLVW predates the M35A3 by about 10 years, and seemed to address the same improvements the DoD wanted. I think the only thing it doesn't have that the M35A3 has is CTIS.
I considered a MLVW myself and came to the same conclusion. Bombardier seemed to cheap out on the steel used in the trucks. I think they even had a recall regarding the rear axle suspension assemblies corroding to pieces!
Totally true! The M35A3s all came with cab heaters with windshield defrost dampers. That's not to say you can't install some kind of heater kit in an A2 or just get one of those 12V ceramic space heaters to wire into your truck.

In the manuals I've read, it seems the cab top needs to be removed for the A-frame cables going to the rear of the truck. Having not seen this setup in-person, can that be adjusted so the cab top can be left on?
