Yes, the title of this topic is a play on the name of a Beach Boys song.
And yes, this is another topic about knuckle boots.
Although I need to block-up my M35A3 every time I park it for the day (at least until I get the rim seals fixed), it forces me to inspect the bottom of the truck and...
SJ, I'm glad you found a replacement pump for your tranny! That failure point is one of the reasons why I think I'm going to like my A3's 545 on the account of parts availability.
I'm still running the military 15W oil in my tranny, though I plan on switching to Dexron III next spring when the...
I finally found the post that made me aware of the 5-ton ESP trucks: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?27089-My-take-on-the-M35A3&p=282332&viewfull=1#post282332
And the pictures from that post that made me want to find one, or cobble one together:
Yeah, these are probably long...
I actually spent a couple weeks reading this entire thread in anticipation of getting my first deuce. Nothing but inspiration in here! The first thing I did after picking it up was load it with stuff from my house for the big move!
Then the following Wednesday, I got it inspected and drove...
So after a road test and waiting for the title to clear, I finally bought a M35A3 I've been eyeing for awhile. It's a 1994, S/N 500246.
I was told it was auctioned off from Fort Drum in 2009 to the previous-previous owner, then bought by the previous owner a couple months later, then it mostly...
Here's an update: The owner and I took it on a test drive on pavement for the first time, and it shifts! However, it has high shift points. It didn't seem to want to shift until 3000 RPM! But I kinda wonder if the tach is out of adjustment.
Another thing that seemed to compound the issue...
I'm giving this a little bump. I plan to troubleshoot this with the seller this Saturday. He wants a working tranny as much as I do!
Another detail is that we've only driven the truck off road in a field. Is this mechanical automatic transmission smart enough to adjust its shift points based...
Yes, I forgot to mention the tranny still has motor oil in it.
I couldn't find transmission shift points in the manuals that I have for the truck. Are these points published anywhere?
I'm looking at purchasing an M35A3. It's been sitting for about ten years, but it starts right up and everything works, except the transmission won't shift out of first gear in the drive position. Doesn't matter if I'm in high or low range. Run the engine up to 2500 rpm and it just doesn't...
I recently read that alongside the M35A3 ESP trucks, the Army was also considering 5-ton ESP trucks with CAT motors and automatic transmissions. I guess these were going to be standardized as M809A3 trucks? I was wondering if anyone had more information or pictures of these trucks. I don't...
While looking over the M35A3 I'm considering buying, I noticed that it has air brake gladhands on the back. Does anyone know of any campers or kits for camper brakes that would allow me to use an air-over-hydraulic brake system on a camper?
Thank you for your feedback and ruling out the manifold for this issue! I think I'll see if I can bargain the truck around a new set of tires.
I read somewhere that the thicker commercial truck o rings are the way to go with the rim. Are there commercial alternatives to the other CTIS seals...
If I bought the truck, I'd try to fix the CTIS just because I'd like to keep original equipment functional if I can. I'm just not sure what would cause all the tires on one side to be flat, but I don't really have an understanding of how the manifold divides the air among the wheels. I thought...
I'm looking at purchasing an M35A3. One of the things I noticed about the truck was that the tires on the driver's side of the truck are all flat, but the ones on the passenger side are all holding air. Also, the CTIS ECU will not turn on.
Based on a CTIS pipe diagram I saw on FP-5 of...
I'm looking for a SS member near Hudson, NY (between Albany and Poughkeepsie) that can look over a 5-ton for me. It's an M54 multi-fuel. It would be a 10-hour round trip for me if I went to look at it, so any assistance is appreciated. Please PM me if you can help me out.
