A trip to an Allison dealer is one of the first things I do when I get a truck. I let them service the transmission, check the shift points, and adjust/replace anything they suggest.
I just bought one in June for $1,800. It was a recent reset with like 60 hours on it. It came on the newer HMMWV generator trailer. While mine was fairly cheap, a friend got one of the two generator set ups (generators with fewer than 10 hours on each) for $2,800! Then, a single generator on...
Ha ha! Yup. Great looking truck, Howard. Glad you cleaned her up and are enjoying it! I'll let you know if I get up to CV; I plan to try to make it this fall. If I get up there, I'll give you some notice so we can meet up.
I am shocked that very few M916A2s have come out. I believe there have been more A3s that have been released than A2s for some weird (to me) reason. I would have thought the older trucks would have been released first. However, I have only seen a handful of A2s released and I follow the...
15W40 oil. The brand is up to you. I buy whatever good name brand is on sale, but, all things being equal, I like Rotella. I have used Valvoline, Delvac, Rotella, and others. Regarding antifreeze, make sure it is rated for a diesel...cavitation (little bubbles forming to erode the metal) is...
Another member on here...I'll let him chime in if he wants...HAD trouble with a branch office. But, he was eventually able to get it squared away. I don't know the details, but I believe he said it had to do with the off-road only issue.
I think he meant M939 series trucks.
I actually would prefer the M939 series trucks off road, specifically the A1s or A2s. The 1400s, with the air shift front axle, would be preferable and I can't think of a situation where that would not be the case.
There was a kit made for the M915A2 Freightliner tractor (they did not have AC) that could be adapted. I had one, but I no longer have it. ZEBEDEE in upstate NY now owns it. Perhaps, you could contact him, or he may respond, so you could get more information on it. Or, someone else may have...
That truck is sweet, Derrick! CUCVFAN also has an LSSV. I think he'll also know the paint color. Good luck with it, and great score! I love the crew cab!
