See the image in this post (#42) here for Transfer case fill point:

And then see post #45 for an example of the fluid level (last picture in that post)...
Same in Utah. If it's a regular pickup truck they cannot sit on the bedsides but needs to be sitting on the floor of the bed.
Back to the thread topic:
That sounds like a fun evening!
Thanks, but in my opinion, the vast majority of the thanks should go to gringeltaube, I wouldn't have even known where to look for the problem if it wasn't for him and his drawings and measurements saved be boat loads of time!
Let me tell you what I did wrong so hopefully you can learn from my mistake.
I did indeed have the adapter tight into the transfer case, but I did not have the flat, or "keyed", part of the shaft properly lined up. So when it did line up (you can see where it had sat, via the shiny damage)...
(Update: This post of mine here is all operator/mechanic error - take note of the picture as I reference it in my follow up post)
And it's still leaking, but appears to be leaking after the seal, coming out of the threads maybe. Maybe I don't have the seal in right, or failed on tightness, but...
The one that says "Viton" in the description, sorry it is buried in there and I could have made it more clear.
Also, yes, came right out with no issue. I still need to check the fluid level in my transfer case, but unless I understand things wrong, the adapter is located higher than the...
Last night I received my order of 2 pairs of oil seals (as discussed above). Now that I am able to inspect them in person, I am greatly inclined to agree with texas30cal that the Viton seal is superior - and it has a double lip as indicated when ordering it. But now that I can compare what a...
What paint did you use? I have some "light forest green", just like this:
http://amzn.com/B008I6WKNS
But I find it far too light colored to match the "383 Green". Usually end up just using the Krylon Olive Drab. Your color looks like it matches better in the photos.

A second person sure...
The eBay compressor wrenches could be the same SteelSoldier's member (I don't know) but there's an ad in the SS classifieds for longer handled ones by comdiver. Same fellow I bought mine from (older style) 3+ years ago.
Does it seem like the seal will be water proof, or reasonably well? (I assume that's why it had a gasket seal in the first place).
As to build threads , I myself like to just post about one project at a time, as when I'm searching for other or similar mods/repairs that I may be interested in...
Snapped a couple pictures of the cell phone holder that is meant to be wedged between seats or console in cars. Fits really well on the passenger fold down seat. I need to put in a longer cord for it.
Obviously it's kind of in the way for folding down the seat but no so much that I can't still...
I spoke to a Customer Service Rep. at a local Motion Industries location, e-mailed him the pictures and measurements from gringeltaube, and the fellow recommended the following:
1: The latter one from my search above (8x14x4 HMS1 R Nitrile Seal)
Item Number: 00602728
$3.25 each...
Well, I tried my local NAPA store and they did not find anything with the part numbers listed in this thread (8X14X4TCM, TTO A409), and could not find any oil seals that small in their catalog but did recommend to me that I try Motion Industries.
Using their website I came up with the...
Thanks Merc1973! Though you easily know much more about CB than I do. I played with CB when growing up, but I don't remember squat from that so I'm having to search the interwebs and read, read, read. I'll definitely need to take your advice and try a separate SWR meter as I have yet to pick...
No, a new speedometer CABLE will not come with the seal and will not fix the leak. The speedometer cable attaches to a worm gear "speedometer adapter" and the oil seal is located on the end of the adapter that attaches to the transfer case.
Thanks for all your help too. I will post results as soon... If I can ever get a seal to replace it. Going to try the NAPA and TTO part numbers listed earlier.
So it took me a day thinking about this to realize what my confusion was. It didn't seem right that the oil seal would be so close to the speedometer cable, because that wouldn't keep the oil out of the rest of speedometer adapter... I realized that these figures referred to the end of the...
