Here's another one going to put my front winch hydraulics in with the rear on my 936 wrecker so I can self recover from the front also. I never understood why they were not made this way to begin with. The more I learn about the 936 the more I miss my 816.
I have heard that it can be turned up but not done it. But as Ron said the rear winches have been derated for some reason and unlike Ron I don't think it was because of the pump, as I have one that will pull as hard as mine on my 816. I think the military found out that the cables were not...
That would be a no, which is nuts but true the front winch on all 939 series trucks are not for self recovery the -10 clearly states that a second vehicle with a winch is to be used to unmire a truck in deep mud. This means only a 936 can self recover with the rear winch.
Thanks Ron I had forgotten that you and I had talked about the blocks before. Need to start a wrecker note book of tricks my memory is not so sharp anymore.
Yes 1" way to big was thinking 7/16 or 1/2" climbing type rope plenty strong for pulling the cable out and only 300' as most pulls will be less than 150' and you can always rerig for more length if needed.
Oh and you won't find any Manila rope on my wrecker.
Only going to get a small capstan winch like on a sailboat, not sure where to mount it as I will probably need to be able to use it while letting out line on the big winch. Not sure if it will work or not just trying to get the use of the rear winch down to a two man job not 3+.
Okay guess the old rope goes on the fire. Anyone else use rope on their wrecker? Think I am going to get 300 feet to use for pulling my rear winch line out using the blocks I have and maybe a capstan winch.
To answer the ops question no not even close. And the winch on the back of the 916 is 45.000 lbs. As you saw they make bigger winches, bigger than 5 ton trucks.
