Jay, I wish I could say that I won it! However, I can't say that because I did not win it. That was a lot of coin for a rare truck, but it seemed kinda high for an unknown...and this comes from someone who had a trained military truck mechanic inspect the truck. Still, if the truck runs...
ACTIONFIGUREBOB has a deuce with snow plow for sale in MD. He is a good friend and I can vouch for the truck. Beautiful truck...air shift...troop seats...winch...hard and soft top...comes with M105. Contact him if you are interested.
Get the inspection sticker and park the truck outside whenever the weather permits. If you find the idiot who complained, park the truck in front of their house...preferably when they have company over or around holidays.
Another option...if you don't mind getting it up here...is Ollie Davis who is in Mt. Airy, MD. Ollie is a great mechanic. I've had him help me track down electrical gremlins on previous CUCVs. I realize it is not local, but it is an option.
PM NEWFDAD on this list. Keith is a wiz at CUCV electrical problems. Unfortunately, he moved from Maryland to Montana so he is no longer a local resource! Keith might have some ideas for you.
I have been going to the rallies for a long time and I can't remember anyone giving anyone a hard time over their restoration. I say do what makes you happy.
You might want to check with BLAKE on this list. He lives in your area and he is very knowledgeable. He is not a professional mechanic per se, but he knows his stuff. I am not sure if he has the time or inclination to work on other people's trucks, though. You might try to PM him.
Van, it should say it on the data plate the shows the maximum permissible speeds. Right next to 5th gear, it should say either overdrive or direct), I believe. It has been a while since I owned my old M543A2.
I would say that 2,600 is high for either motor. 2,300 is probably as high as I'd want to take her. I know there are guys on this list that insist that a deuce will do 60 MPH with stock rubber so they may disagree with me.
I believe max speed with the direct drive was either 46 or 47 MPH. I am going on memories that are now ten years old! With the OD tranny, it should be over 50 MPH.
Jay, again, I'd want to know if the truck had an OD tranny or a direct drive tranny. If it was the latter, 43 MPH would be close to the top speed (I believe the top speed is listed as 47 MPH, if I am not mistaken, but you are doing like 2,650 RPM to get that. If the truck has a direct drive...
