Things for a "n00b" to look for in a deuce

Contact DOCFARMALL (he goes by Doc or just Jeff) in Rising Sun, IN. I am sure he can fix you up with a truck.

    Gillespie Durability?

I have had probably 20 trucks painted with fresh CARC (my personal favorite for authenticity) over the years and a few with Gillespie. The Gillespie weathers and lasts better in my opinion. With the CARC, the problem is not the green (or tan) or brown; the problem is the black. The green and...

    How to remove carc

Be careful as CARC is TOXIC...highly TOXIC! All paint is toxic to some degree, but CARC is worse. It attacks the central nervous system. Use a fresh air breathing apparatus. Yes, other paints stick to CARC. I know for a fact that Gillespie sticks to it and so does more CARC. Also, primer sticks...

    who makes the best paint???

I recommend Gillespie. It weathers very nicely (less fading and is less prone to scratching than CARC)! Plus, you can get spray cans for touch-ups.

My BIG M925A2 Project Truck Is Home

Chris, that truck is really coming along! Somewhere, there is a BMY engineer who is smiling!

    New M931 owner...

You will find that the A2 parts are very scarce. Fortunately, very few parts are A2-specific, but expect to ante up if you need an A2 part.

    Very odd m1028

The M1028s from 1987 came with the M1010 charging system. I can't remember the reason, but I believe they only initially contracted for ambulances and then diverted a certain # for the M1028s, but all had the M1010 charging system. I used to own one and I know CUCVFAN did, as well. They both...

    My new M936A2 project (update)

Jason, now that the motor is out, this would be the time to paint the firewall, especially if you go with tan like we have been discussing. You don't have to do so as the military would not have painted it tan if the truck was green, but it would look nicer for sure.

M35A3 from GA to WA, I need ideas.

Trucking does add to the cost of a truck and it is also the reason many of us don't bid far from home. When I have bid in HI, ND, FL, MI, OK, etc., I always figure shipping in. That is why I don't win much that far away. Trucking adds a big chunk to the cost. Sure, driving the truck is cheaper...

M35A3 from GA to WA, I need ideas.

Your assumption about the speed is incorrect and don't let the fact that you can do 60 MPH make you feel you should do 60 MPH. The A3 is SLOWER than an A2. You are screaming at 50 MPH. You need to push that CAT to about 2600 RPM to get to about 55 MPH. Since you are getting the truck sent to...

    9.00 x 20 snow tread

I should have also explained how to quickly tell the difference between an NDT and an NDCC. The NDT has squared off shoulders while the NDCC has rounded shoulders. It is clear if you have seen both, especially next to each other

    9.00 x 20 snow tread

Very cool. I thought you were going to say, "If you want to make your NDCCs really gnarly, switch to a better tire.":-D By the way, there is a difference between an NDT and an NDCC. The tires found on our deuces and many M809 series trucks (and a few M939 series trucks) are NDCCs as in...

    Fuel filter # for M817

Ron, are you kidding? I thought that was for the engine pre-heater. You learn something new everyday! I always pre-prime the fuel filter by filling the fuel filter cannister, but I had no idea that pumping the primer lever would do the same thing. On the M939 series, there is a primer pump...

    Fuel filter # for M817

If you constantly have to drain crap out of the separator, you have a terribly dirty fuel system. Drop both tanks and have them cleaned out. No other way around this unless you are adding dirty fuel. This COULD be possible if you are trying to burn anything but clean diesel.

    Need new transmission

Contact Dave Newman at Eastern Surplus in Philly. I realize he is on the opposite side of the world from you, but he may have a new tranny. I know he's got, or had, some new 5 ton trannys. I believe he got a new deuce tranny. It is worth a call.

Need info to start M944A1 for recovery from Rock Island

Congratulations, Mark. Glad to hear that the truck is a runner, although I am sure you were planning on that. I bet you got a great truck. The worst thing about these M939 series trucks...and it is a pain in the butt...is the air system. There is nothing wrong with it, but valves tend to...

    buying a 5 ton Wrecker

You guys really need to drive an M936A2 (I can't comment on any other variant of M939 series wreckers like the M936 or M936A1 because I have never driven one). I have owned two M936A2, although only one was operational and Jason Frisch now owns the second. That baby with the 6CTA 8.3 motor...

    Starting M812 & M139 today

I realize this DOES NOT apply to your two trucks, but I have a word of caution for guys with deuces with turbos. While I don't own an M35A2 or any variant to my name right now, I love them and have owned several (probably eight at the height...or bottom...depending upon if you ask me or my...
