1968 Deuce, new owner - new member

The usual culprit for alternator drains is the "diodes" . They go bad and then allow the voltage to go to ground.

Who has backyard rebuilt an LDT?

Sadly that happens more then you think ! Mislabeled bearings can really ruin your day !

    breaking free stuck lug nuts

I totally agree that as time passes the whole "black and white" issues of life change. When I was young I was totally sure of everything in the Universe. Now as the years have passed I have become certain that "nothing" is certain ! Only putting my faith in God has stood the test of time. As it...

    breaking free stuck lug nuts

The newer style of studs on trucks and buses (which are smaller) are usually use once and discard. The older style which have 3/4" studs are meant to be reused many times. They do need to be inspected and if any damage is noticed then they need to be replaced. You almost never hear of a...

    breaking free stuck lug nuts

No. That comment was for those who where saying I didn't know what I was talking about ie: no experience. I believe I do have experience here. But I never called anyone out and said they where some "fill in the insult here" .

    breaking free stuck lug nuts

First off you would have lost that bet to me. The first two pictures show some of my Snap-On torque wrenchs. They go from 1 oz to 600 ft Ibs. The third picture shows some of my air impact guns. I suppose I could gather together my torque multiplier's for another picture, and my electric impact...

Who has backyard rebuilt an LDT?

No you missed the point. You need to check "All" new bearings. Like I mentioned about the mis-packaged bearing, you never know what will happen. So check everything.

    breaking free stuck lug nuts

I know this sets people off but, I have taken off all my lug nuts and cleaned up the threads and reinstalled them using "Anti-Seize" . Now they come off like their suppose to. Just what I do, your mileage might vary.

    Some brake questions

The Teflon stainless steel braided lines are the way to go. I've heard of that "myth" of the sheathing hiding leaks. Well it's not true. At the kind of pressure produced in the brake system no little plastic coating is going to hold up. It will leak. The coating is just for debris getting into...

Deuce Front Bumper Tow Bar Mount (again)

That has been a concern of mine as well. Since I went with the "WARN" electric winch I'm much lighter then the stock winch. I've also considered a axle truss for the Rockwell axle. I've seen several built for some severe "offroad" use that could be adapted to our purpose. I'm aware of the...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Another problem area is the power steering pump bracket. Those bolts like to come loose for some reason. They need to be inspected on a regular basis.

    breaking free stuck lug nuts

I have the 1/2" and the 3/4" Milwaukee's right now. I love them. Now if they do come out with a 1" impact I'm buying that too ! Of course on the Deuce I've set it up now so that I'm able to run my 1" impact from my spare 30 gallon air tank with 3/4" air-hose. It only gives me 5 seconds at 2,000...

Deuce Front Bumper Tow Bar Mount (again)

That is a very cool idea !!!! I too have a rod up my back and an artificial knee and the other one needs to be. So I know all about proper placement of items that are heavy. I have also wrestled with many different places to install my tow-bar. This looks like the best option for me too. Thanks...

Who has backyard rebuilt an LDT?

You always need to check the crank and rod journals on every engine. Even if it's a new crank. Especially if it's a new crank ! Bearings are supposed to be held to certain tolerances but mistakes happen. Also mis-packaging of bearings happens. It has happened to me several times. I needed a .020...

    Canadian Deuce Availability ???

That is so sad I almost cried reading it ! What a waste of good military equipment and parts ! Crazy government trying to control our lives saying what is good and bad for us. After all "they know better" since their the "educated elite" after all. Just ask them !

    battery problem

There are quite a few "errors" in our TM's. If in doubt about something ask.

Fiberglass hard top from Idaho Motor Pool

I'll just warn you that any fiberglass top will shack and rattle more then any steel one. Also they tend to crack real easy at the flanges where you bolt them down. In my opinion your better off trying to build your own like a fellow member did here a while back.
