You are one lucky dude ! You should buy some Lottery tickets ! That truck was a steal ! Any truck that even looks military around here sells for mucho denero. No matter the condition.
That's not true. Having worked in them I know. We have had transmission shops ever since vehicles came out. Transmissions go out, yes even Volvo ones. I can point you to a few web sites dealing with Volvo transmission problems. Are there vehicles with too much power ? Yes there are, but not many...
Yes you have only 86,000 miles on it, but the seals are still over 30 years old. Time kills all rubber products. Yes the Volvo transmission is a good one, so is the Honda, and Toyota, and Mercedes and on and on and on..... Time still kills seals. What year is your 300,000 mile car ?
Just because the relay is working doesn't mean the "glow" plugs are. You need to check them on a regular basis. Especially if you live in one of the colder regions.
Those dual rear wheels look real cool ! Lot of work to get them that way though.
Then there is the whole "wheel bearing" issue to think about. That much weight and leverage on the axle is a lot to handle. Installing a 5 ton axle would be a lot easier and stronger.
I should be more specific about my description. Just a box over the generator will cause severe over-heating. So don't do that ! I plan on remaking mine out of aluminum and putting on newer acoustic dampening (cancelling) materials. That way it can be mounted outside on my spare fuel tank. Also...
That's funny ! Of course all drill instructors are suppose to be total ass-holes ! That's their jobs. Some do take it a bit to far though.
So 40Ltr . That's not bad eh ? Considering this unit will last for decades I feel it was a great deal.
I just use a "plywood" shelter lined with acoustic foam. Just run a pipe to the air intake and exhaust tube. For the exhaust muffler, there is a company that makes "discs" that quite the sound. I've used them before and they work. You can add or subtract the number of "discs" to suit your...
The actual oil the military wants you to use costs $50.00 a gallon. It's a RAPCO brand. Cannot remember the number off the top of my head. So just use a good light weight oil like Gimpyrobb said.
I have no problems "going bush" as you say. I was after all a Sargent in the USMC . I love to hike and camp. I still own sixteen sleeping bags ranging from 40 degrees below zero to summer temps. I own over 80 back-packs. My "REI" number is in the low thousands. I have 50 gallon barrels full of...
Well the "Great Alaskan Adventure" keeps getting postponed due to the lack of a working area and all the new construction going on at home right now. Instead of installing my power steering system last summer, I spent it cleaning out my old shop and then watched it get demolished. My new shop...
When he said "at this age ?" I started to laughing so hard I almost peed myself ! Who would have "thunk it" that a transmission that is over 30 years old would need any attention at all ! I have a question for you "volvo740turbo" . How many transmissions do you see going out (bad) after just a...
The frig will be mounted in my "S250" shelter which is on my M105 trailer. That way I can use 24 volts DC when driving, (I have a dedicated 10 gauge wire for power to the trailer) and then switched to my generator (MEP-531) 120 volts AC when parked for the night. Since I can keep food frozen I...
"dmetalmiki" you do realize if you bleed out a little bit of DOT 5 like this guys does with his DOT 4 you will eliminate any problems. So why go with the inferior product DOT 4 and just stay with the military's DOT 5 instead.
