    CARNAC's Historical VIN INFO Thread

Thanks Carnac, this is incredibly valuable information for anyone restoring a M series vehicle. Even if your truck’s serial is not listed, you can easily extrapolate to get either close or spot on to your truck’s registration number (hood number=USA number=Army registration number). No more...

First time owner; Paint Questions; Anyone in Houston?

High quality = Sherwin Williams CARC military paint sprayed from a pressure pot. Half assed = home depot house paint sprayed with a harbor freight airless

    7 ton batteries

Geeze those Dekas are only a year old, surely you could have charged them up and put them on a maintainer to bring them back.

    M818 chasing electrical problems

The brake light and turn light are the same filament, so this means the lamp unit and the chassis harness are OK. This problem is often caused by the turn switch handle. The other issue is a short circuit SOMEWHERE in the lighting circuit on the truck. It could be anywhere. See if it only...

    My recent purchase 1977 M882

NOT having a blackout light kit? It's a cool accessory but usually a hacked up mess after the fire depts. get done with them, is that why you consider NOT having one a bonus? I was really fond of mine until one night I was pulling a heavy equipment trailer with lots of clearance lights. The...

Dual voltage alternator compatability question (1505 vs. 1506)

Do you feel lucky? Dun had one alt fire. Heater + wiper + headlights + clearance lights + trailer lights= ???

Dual voltage alternator compatability question (1505 vs. 1506)

I don't think that will work. The FMTVs are mostly 12 volt. That little yellow terminal on the regulator is not designed for the entire vehicle load, only for the transmission on a HMMWV.

    MTVR CTIS problem

Yes like zero OR infinite. This is an analog input to the controller, it sends out probably 5 volts and looks for 5 volts to be coming back or not. Since this is no current, even the slightest resistance in the circuit due to corrosion etc will cause your symptom.

    What is it?

Those square connectors are for hydraulic solenoids so my guess is it’s for the knuckle crane.

    MTVR CTIS problem

Maybe an issue in the connector between the harness and the controller. Clean and reseat.

    TH400 Issues, and more

I believe the governor has a gear that can strip. This can be fixed without pulling the transmission.

Mounting Warn Severe duty 18 winch

Careful you don’t cap off the gladhands, the vents have to function

    M1008 Seat Bracket

No clue, never seen one of those. Looks shopmade by mil., not an ordnance item.

Looking at a M59. Need info

I have restored two of those and even though I really like the 302, I do not think the M59 is a good track. The 302s spend all their time at 3400 rpm and struggle to move the apc. Synchronization of the two power packs is a nightmare. To move one unpowered all you have to do is release the...

Mounting Warn Severe duty 18 winch

That looks like a very very good design. Should be able to withstand 20,000 pounds of pull easy. See if you can post the DXF files so we can copy it.

In need of a M1078 Front windshield and a little about me, "The New Guy"

Yes please do, your year of manufacture is unusual, it’s usually 1994 and up.

    HMMWV 3-speed reliability

Haha it is my opinion that the Turbohydramatic 400 is mankind’s most reliable creation

100% for sure went through rebuild at Sealy plant. They installed the upgraded clearance lights. Red River Parts and Equipment in New Boston TX has the windshields. Nice nice truck.
