Another thing to add to comments that @ToddJK and @MarkM made is to consider rotating "Battery A" and "Battery B" maybe twice a year. That way, if one battery is getting more charging attention than the other - you don't end up with a battery that fails early.

SAFETY WARNING
Stuck shoes is most often the problem. Just be sure that you have a second person if you are on a hill or something to keep yourself safe. Wheels chocked or whatever it takes to keep the truck from rolling over you. Most of the time, a good solid "love tap" with a 3# hammer...

AND the air powered steering uses an amazing amount of air. Tractors backing into a slot at a dock with an inexperienced driver will drain the air tanks amazingly fast. Then when the low air buzzer comes on, the driver gets concerned and blocks traffic waiting to build air.
Everybody has an...

I use a series of magnets with tape reflectors applied to them.
Using old vehicle (advertising) magnets cut into strips about 3 feet long and applied as needed.
That way you have plenty of markings - and the ability to "go dark" if the need arises.
.
Well... That could be true, but the question is: Do you have the best piece of hardware for the job? Or is there maybe a larger safety margin with the bigger and heavier Medium Tow Bar? Especially if - for who knows what reason - the HMMWV gets a little "squirrely" as it is being dragged...

The 4 wedges are pointed down into the steering arm. Helps make sure that the holes don't get "wallered" out if the nuts get loose. When you get it apart, you will see the cone shape they fit in to.

Youngest son in the Navy Reserves...
His outfit is Communications and all of their towing vehicles are USMC.
This most recent "two week holiday" had several Mk23 trucks assigned to them.

Nobody (including me) wants to do it, but soak the 4 wedges with some WD-40 or your favorite penetrating oil. Give it a good shot, let it sit and repeat it maybe once an hour or so. This time wear your safety glasses when you tap it with the hammer. On the side of the link to "kinda" make...

Yes Sir!
I remember those days. Back where diagramming sentences, proper structure, and a lot of "wasted time" was spent. My goal in school sure wasn't writing anything if I could help it... Funny how things change with time and age.

The 4 bolts have 4 "cone shaped" pieces on the studs that hold that plate in place. Generally speaking, a generous love tap with a 3# hammer should cause those cones to move up the stud. Be gentle with a pair of pliers and wiggle them out. Try not to "booger" them up...
The arm requires a...

Wow!!
That is really nice work.
Great looking paint jobs too.
You definitely have skills! If you have the time, it really might be worth your time to see what it might cost to sell a few. There is a LOT of detail there... There are some folks who would really like to have a small...

Hi and Welcome!
Has it ever run before for you? Sounds like you may have twisted wrenches on these before? Guessing that you know where to get the TM's (here, free download)? Guessing too that maybe it sat for a while - and maybe you got it at auction?
You mentioned white smoke. Maybe it...

I have not purchased and imported a MV. I have moved printing equipment from Germany to America. We insured the shipping container to the point that had it fallen off the ship, we could have made a profit. I hired a rigger to move the press into the container and hauled it to the shipyard...

Welcome to the Outfit!
There is definitely a process to get some things from certain countries imported. Other things and certain countries seem to be "off limits". I found a link that might help you. From the reading that I have done, having the properly licensed "Expediter" or importer /...

Wow!
Well that turns out to be good news. A pain in the anatomy, but at least you got it solved. That almost makes me wonder if having a spare solenoid would be useful since it controls the up and down function.
THANKS for updating the post with the solution too!!

Medium is heavier and stronger. Of course that means you have to hustle the thing into place when you need it. Retractable is "cute" but I don't want cute when a HMMWV is following me that closely
You might want to spend a little time looking through the Towing TM. Links below...
