It isn't that the pump is so difficult it is because of all the tests and adjustments that must be performed to get them to run correctly. Take a look at the injection manual and you will see what I mean. All the modern pumps are electronically controlled so you just rebuild them and slap them...
No, nothing special. They can break but you will see that very clearly. There is one more thing to check while your in there and that's the sliding sleeve bearing. Just make sure it moves freely. Then start checking the "delivery valve and overflow valve like Floridianson mentioned. If nothing...
Yeah women have a way of draining your wallet ! Wives even more so !!!!
Knowing how powerful that combination of engine and trans is (my buddy has one) it can be fun to tow extremely heavy stuff. I once towed my friends 38ft fifth-wheel trailer with his 1986 454 Chevy truck (same as our CUCV)...
I found the kid I sold my other CUCV that I had installed a 472 Cadillac engine in the other day. Seems he got into an accident going to fast and busted up the truck a bit. Sounds like he also over revved the engine racing some Toyota car. It now has a very loud knock ! To bad, that was a good...
Since your up, how's the 454 engine doing ? Is the cost of fuel getting to you yet ? :D With my lead foot I would be going through a tank of fuel in a day ! At least that's what my wife says !
I normally stay up till 3:00 am. I worked swing-shift for 30 years and the habit is a hard one to break. Plus the pain is usually worse at night so here I am.
I was just back from the Marine Corp and went on a skiing trip to Leavenworth with a group of college friends from church (about 40) . I had my IHC Scout which was all decked out with all the goodies. I got in a race with a guy that had a nice Chevy 4X4 truck . Seems he knew the road (which was...
Something is sticking that is for sure. We just need to find it. Now the first thing I would do is remove the fuel shut-off cover over the operating lever and plunger sleeve and remove the linkage from the rod. See if the sleeve moves freely. Then "push and pull" the operating linkage to see if...
Needs new 'O' rings. You can look it up here using the search engine. I'm feeling rather sick tonight so I will be signing off, but I would have found them and posted it for you.
It's really hard to see the pictures clearly. On the synchros are the locking lugs (small teeth) rounded or pointed ? Is there any chunks out of them ? Also check the gears and their lugs also. That main shaft looks a little worn out, but then again it could just be the picture.
For the immediate future I think with some new bushings and seals the old turbos can have an extended life. These older turbos do not have the extreme tolerances that modern turbos do. Also the old impellers seem to hold up fairly well. The seals will be the most difficult item to find. A good...
If you have the M1008 radiator then you have the largest radiator ever made for this truck. It is a 4 core copper radiator and it's over 4 inches longer then a civilian model. Unless you specified at time of purchase the stock radiator is much smaller.
Wow ! You have some great fabrication skills !
I agree with Gimpyrobb about the air-bags. Those along with some weight down low will help with the sway problem. Busses have the same problems and air bags are the only way to go.
Chris is right. You actually need to move the parts around and see if the movement is excessive. Or totally take apart the transmission. Did you experience the transmission jumping out of gear ? Or the shifter shaking violently ? Can you move the main shaft up and down ? Can you move the...
Thanks Tommy. After wrenching on heavy trucks and equipment for over 4 decades I have collected quite a few tools. The spring gauge I've been meaning to buy costs $500.00 used so I will have to save up for it. The wife doesn't understand my "need" for such things !
As far as the pumps being...
