    Transmission Opinions

Your not going to find a stronger transmission then the TH400. With a "Gear Venders" overdrive that would be a killer unit. You can go with the 4L80E but it would need to be modified to reach the TH400's level of reliability, and yes I know the 4L80E is already a modified TH400. The factory...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Around here you must avoid all the roads leading into our out of Seattle from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM . That also includes the Eastside now too (Bellevue, Kirkland, Bothell, Woodinville, Renton ) . Basically if you don't go after morning rush-hour your screwed !

    Vibration/Noise - Bad Transfer Case?

When you push against the pinion flange (upward movement) there should be "ZERO" clearance. The only play should be the backlash which is usually .008" to .016" on a gear like that. You measure that by "twisting" the flange.

    Transmission issue

The 3052 is a "1 to 1 ratio" and the 3053 is "1 to 0.69 ratio" . They both will interchange just fine as they basically are identical except for the 5th gear. Actually 5th and 4th gear, as in the 3053 fourth gear becomes the fifth gear overdrive and fifth gear becomes fourth gear or "1:1" .

    PEASHOOTER's M109A3 CAMPER Build Thread

Thanks for the heads-up on the "Alodine 1201" and "Alumiprep 33" ! Where did you get them from ? I need to start "squirreling" away parts and supplies for my Trailer project.

Its cold outside lets talk Heaters, H81, H82, H83, etc.

I've seen them use this trick a time or two ! Though sometimes the hour meter is correct ! You just have to go and inspect the item every time.

    Vibration/Noise - Bad Transfer Case?

I agree with "fsearls92" here. You actually need to torque them, not just put a wrench on them and assume they are tight. I had several that where "tight" but when I actually torqued them they where way off ! Also how are the 'U' joints ? When was the last time you lubed them ? Lube them now and...

    Transmission issue

I've had to use two pry bars 36" long and push hard on them to get those stupid collars loose ! So use your best judgment but just know that it will take some force to move it. Also since there are two collars that are stuck you only have to get one unstuck usually to free up everything, so I...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

At lunch time half the talk from mechanics is complaining about the design engineers who built the last piece of equipment we where just working on. I usually start by saying "just give me 2 minutes with them and a baseball bat ! " .

    Transmission issue

If you just put the transfer-case in neutral you will have no bind-up from the differentials. What is usually still holding them is the shifter collar is "twisted" and it will take a bit of force to move it. You can take a brass drift and a good size hammer and give it a good "wack" to move it...

I like her "moxy" ! That's what I call becoming "one" with the truck !

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I bought a "butt" pad for my truck for these long trips. Helps a lot ! That and a lot of pain pills !

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I always listen to Gospel music when I wrench. It helps keep me calmer when that last bolt holding the "whatever" won't come off and there is no physical way to actually reach it since it is behind something and your just using your hands to "feel" it. The Cummins M11 has the stupid fuel pump...

Murphy and the Rear Main Seal

I would go with the recommendation of the engineer from "Tremec" myself which he called for a 50W oil gear oil. This will provide all the lubricity for the roller needle bearings you would ever need.

    M1008 Powertrain Upgrade

Some of the "crank" issues on the 6.2 are also caused by lubrication problems. Since you appear to be going with a better oil pump you might just eliminate those issues. I would also look at the main oil galley and side galleys for full flow since GM loved to use "step-down" drilling on those...

I also agree with Rich about "TCI" . Nothing but bad from them !

Murphy and the Rear Main Seal

You really shouldn't be using 30w oil, especially "modern" engine oil. It has to many other additives that are not good for the transmission. Also, it is too "light" of an oil for the transmission. The gear specialist from "Tremec" said to use 50W gear oil. You can see how "watery" it gets when...

M1010 for my daughter the field biologist

My brother went through that a few years ago. Got the cancer from the "Agent Orange" used in Vietnam. The VA doesn't like that news to get out much, though they will admit the cause and effect if you push them. Hope your feeling better soon.
