Check Your Brake Components Reminder (3 leaking wheel cylinders only 4 years old)

Those "New" NAPA wheel cylinders are made in China I found out. The piston cups that you can buy in bulk are still made in America. They are the basic 1-3/8" piston cup.

Worth the upgrade to MEP 003a from 002a?

Yes I did pay a bit for that generator, but the Yanmar engine is such a fuel sipper that in the long run I came out OK. Especially if we ever experience an extended outage like we did 10 years ago. Here's some pictures of my MEP-016F generator. I call it the "F" series since the gen-head is a...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I haven't been over to Ocean Shores for years now. I was over there on the Olympic National Park this last summer with the family and my M1031 (or whatever the pickup version is, I always forget) . Maybe we can get some local members to take a trip to Ocean Shores for a weekend.

Worth the upgrade to MEP 003a from 002a?

I also bought a MEP-003a for the house. We lose power several times a year for days at a time. The problem is with the whole house "on" we're only using about 6KW. That is running everything ! So when it came time to go to bed and everything was shut-down the generator was only at 5% load ! It...

MEP 003a, some questions, also new member

The master selector switch can be a can of worms. Do you honestly need 3 phase ? If not then just leave this switch alone. Otherwise you need to loosen up the bolts holding it together and squirt some LPS or other cleaner lube in it to free it up. I would not use WD-40 for any lubing. There are...

Check Your Brake Components Reminder (3 leaking wheel cylinders only 4 years old)

Yes you should yearly check your brakes, but having them leaking that soon is not right. Did you buy American made rubber parts ? The Chinese made wheel cylinders are basically junk. The castings are OK but the rest of the components are crap. I buy bulk "piston cups" from NAPA and replace the...

what kind of pyrometer are you using?

Hewitt makes the finest Pyro's on the market in my opinion. I went with the Hewitt pyro and boost gauges myself.

You know us old farts, we don't have any working sense of humor anymore. In fact we don't have any working parts anymore !

The thing is, around here you never know when someone is just joking or serious ! Or just having fun or being an a$$. That's why I use the emoticons ;) .

    manual ctis

[ If a tire is flat or below 20 psi, the wheel valve will not open for that tire. That is in case a tire gets shot out in combat. Keeps the other tires from loosing air.

    Taking (another) Plunge

Nothing a good steam-cleaner and sand-blaster cannot fix ! Actually looks to be in pretty good condition. The cadets should have a blast fixing this up. Good hands-on experience.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Really ? That's what you took from my comment ? Well then let me explain in simple terms. First take the 'U' bolt off, then remove the old brake line. Then replace the 'U' bolt (making sure to torque it to the proper specs) and then install a new stainless steel brake line. Bleed the brakes...

No kidding ! I found a mouse nest in my Subaru's manifold yesterday and we drive this thing everyday ! My wife had complained about some engine noise so I took a look. Found a bunch of twigs and leafs and rags and other stuff wedged in there. For some reason this year is really bad with all the...

Final drive gear ratio in 4 low

You forgot to calculate the "torque converter" and tires. The multiplication factor in our torque converters should be 2.5:1 . That is assuming you have the factory 6 bolt torque converter. So in first gear at a dead stop till about 5 mph you have max multiplication. As you go faster the...
