brake and clutch pedal adjustment fix.

This is something I knew nothing about. I never knew the military went to longer brake and clutch pedals for the women coming into service. I left the Marines in the early 1980's and I remember I didn't have any trouble lifting my feet to get to the pedals. Here I was thinking I'm so fat and my...

    Won't go into 2nd gear.

You can remove the mainshaft from the transmission with the transmission still in the truck. You will have to remove the transmission to transfer-case "jack-shaft" driveline. Then remove the output flange. After that you remove the seal housing. After you remove the top cover (which it looks...

    Won't go into 2nd gear.

I would also look closely at the synchro. Are there any burrs on the "dog clutch " teeth ? Is the bronze on the synchro still smooth and round ? The bronze rings are held in place by rivets that can come loose. They must operate smoothly in the gear. The purpose of the bronze rings is to "speed...

brake and clutch pedal adjustment fix.

I thought there was something about this 1988 Air-Force deuce ! I got the idea of notching my pedals from my 1954 REO deuces.

passenger side 5 gallon fuel can installation.

If your trade is not mechanics then why would you have a collection like I do ? I feel it is a good thing to have enough tools to get you by with, but unless your going into the trade then why waste your money on a lot of specialty tools you will most likely use only once.

    Rear air tank install

I received my Bendix R-14 valve today. So tomorrow I will be installing it next to the new air-tank and running the line to the quick-disconnect (glad-hand) for the trailer "service" line. For my next air project I will be installing a small air-tank for my new air-horns. I think I will mount...

    Hard top installation instructions

I'm sorry, but I've never seen an installation instruction Tm for the hardtop. It really isn't that hard to do. If the holes don't align up then just drill them out. Just use some good RV sealant to keep out the water.

Smooth, quiet running deuce - why?

Boy your not kidding about the roads there David ! Almost every time I have traveled down there I fall asleep driving ! I have gone to Barstow four times now. Nothing but endless straight long roads with nothing to look at but arid land !

Windshield wiper parking problem?? More unusual that your average case!

WD-40 also makes an excellent fluid when cutting aluminum . When I had to cut 1/2" and 3/4" sheets of aluminum I would use the 7-1/2" Milwaukee Hypoid drive saw and WD-40 spray. Also works great for drilling in aluminum. But your right Marcus, it is terrible as a lubricant and penetrating fluid.

passenger side 5 gallon fuel can installation.

I got the idea to mount extra fuel cans on the rear mud-flaps from pictures of Vietnam trucks. Considering you have to plow through two feet of my rear frame to get to them I though it wouldn't be too bad an idea. Granted some midget car could slide up under there but since I'm about 12 feet...

passenger side 5 gallon fuel can installation.

For the 3/16" solid rivets (with flat heads) holding the hinge to the holder I used my impact hammer and rivet set tools (pictures 1 & 2 ) . For the hinge to step I used 3/16" stainless steel rivets and my power riveter (picture 3 ) .

brake and clutch pedal adjustment fix.

I measured them both before adding the notches.

brake and clutch pedal adjustment fix.

There was just the one. I measured when my clutch became disengaged and the brake was at full travel. Both allowed me to take off 2" from the pedals. I though about going to three notches and will if I need them.

passenger side 5 gallon fuel can installation.

Considering there is 50 gallons setting next to the batteries I figured what was 5 gallons more going to do.

DEUCE:Metal 'clacking' sound in 5th gear high/low only??? Any ideas what it might be?

Once you get the "feel" of your transmission it really isn't all that hard to do. I think that's what the driver instructors wanted anyway. For the students to learn to "feel" the transmission and truck in general. You make better drivers and the equipment lasts longer.

    Metal in transmission

Out here on the West coast the shops mainly used 80-90w . I can see your shops out there using the 50w as your much colder in winter then we ever are. When the gears get going they produce some serious heat and that really thins out the oil. Since we are on average 50 degrees F. (year round...

passenger side 5 gallon fuel can installation.

True, there is the fuel can thieves to think about. I will only be using the fuel cans when I 'm going on a trip and want the extra fuel. Now I'm hauling four 5 gallon fuel cans and two 50 gallon tanks. 120 gallons should work to get me to where I want to go ! I still plan on installing a 100...

brake and clutch pedal adjustment fix.

As anyone knows who has driven a deuce the clutch and brake pedals are really high. So if you have bad knees like me it can be extremely difficult at times to get on top of those pedals. So today since I was on a roll I took them off and ground extra mounting notches on them 1" apart. This way I...
