MEP 831 FAQ for owners or potential buyers

I just checked Iron Planet and they have twelve 831A's listed. All in Georgia.

    MEP 831a and NOCO G7200

When the Battery Chargers were manufactured by TRC they used a couple of zip ties to secure the toroid coil to the PCB. Over time due to age and heat the zip ties fracture and allow the toroid to come loose and vibrate about. During use the toroid leads fracture causing the battery charger to...

MEP-802/803/831 Generator Control & Parameter Monitor by WIFI Demo

At this point no additional funding is required to proceed with this. I have all the needed funding, equipment and resources for development, integration and production. Just need to slog thru the tweeking and checkout before turning it into another viable product.

MEP-802/803/831 Generator Control & Parameter Monitor by WIFI Demo

Demoh, Thank you for the insightful input regarding the potential option to provide both options to access the controller via WIFI. Will add it to the list of enhancements to be considered for it. Interconnection to an ATS would be a fairly easy feature to include.

MEP-802/803/831 Generator Control & Parameter Monitor by WIFI Demo

Currently planning on using the genset batteries. Right now the controller draws 20 mA at standby. About as much as a LED so the impact on the genset batteries is very low. Assuming small group 51 batteries in an 802 it would run in standby for about 2 months before the batteries would need...

MEP-802/803/831 Generator Control & Parameter Monitor by WIFI Demo

Actually it will still work. :-) I specifically designed it to work in a power outage situation when ones wireless router has no power and internet are DOWN. It's design to be controlled by any device that has WIFI capability and browser capability. Communication from the WIFI device (such...

Might a WIFI parameter monitoring only capability be more desired? (No remote start/stop)

Not at the moment. I know a couple of others here had been working on a solution for that.

MEP-802/803/831 Generator Control & Parameter Monitor by WIFI Demo

gator, I built the whole thing from the ground up. No off the shelf assemblies, just individual components. It's not pretty since it's a first pass at a prototype to prove out the concept. Hence no pictures of it. Designed the sensors to gather all the parametric data and interfaced them to...

MEP-802/803/831 Generator Control & Parameter Monitor by WIFI Demo

Since my venture into developing the replacement MEP831A Governor Controllers was a success I thought I'd revisit MEP remote start/stop with parameter monitoring. About 2 years ago I developed a similar capability. However the control components were a closed design, didn't use WIFI and was not...

    My second MEP-831A

The Constant Current source is a power supply capable of providing a constant current regardless of voltage. Just the opposite of a constant voltage supply or battery charger. So no, the Battery Tender or wall wart supply won't fill the bill. I use a laboratory grade power supply that has a...

    My second MEP-831A

I suspect the battery is shot especially since it was so low on water. Probably badly sulphated. You might try this. See sections 5.6 and 5.7. http://www.concordebattery.com/Chairman_Technical_Manual.pdf Requires a Constant Current source to implement. Around 700 mA. Used this process on my...

    MEP-802A intermittently overvoltage faulting stall

If you replace the diodes it's recommended that they get replaced with 1N5408's. They have a higher PRV rating than the stock ones. There is also a thread where someone replaced the stock A1 with a SX460...

    Generator in a shipping container

You could easily tie the temperature limit switch into the oil pressure switch circuit or the high coolant temp switch circuit. If the temperature limit switch activates it will cause the set to shut down and display a Low Oil Fault or a High Coolant Temp fault depending on which you tie it to...
