I agree about the spring settings also. Used springs need to be set at 2800 psi. They are charging a little higher then normal amount for basically a good cleaning and setting of the pressure. This is in no way a rebuild though. A rebuild would have new springs and nozzles and pins installed...
If you want to get away from air-assist there are a few options like hydraulic or electric. The problem is the deuce was never designed with those systems in mind. So for the Hydraulic system you will need a dedicated pump and all the hoses and valving. For the electric system you will need an...
Actually there can be to many filters. You don't want to use up all your pump pressure pushing through filters. All big rigs and really most all modern diesel trucks and busses use just three fuel filters. The first is almost always a water separator/filter. The second filter (Primary) is used...
They all have a "sleave" like a piece of pipe that the bolts slides into. Once they get as hard as rocks though you have no cushioning or vibration control. On my CUCV I replaced all the cab and bed mounts with polyurethane bushings. They will out last me and my son. I know of some places in...
So they used the Spicer 3052 transmission. I guess they figured the Cummins could rev higher so they just stayed with a standard transmission with no overdrive. After all the Spicer 3052 is stronger then the 3053. No over spinning gear on the shaft just one to one straight out.
OK for question one. The drag link can be as long as needed. Now I've seen drag links up to 5ft long. Is that a good idea ? I don't think so. To much weight and resistance. I would say a good drag link will not go over 2ft on a truck this size.
Question two: Keep the drag link as close as...
I didn't see that part, my bad. You replaced the batteries and the grounds. Did you ever check the positive cable ? The ends can get corroded and you will not even see it. To test you must twist the crimped end on the cable. If you feel any give then the crimp has come loose, most likely due to...
Here's some pictures showing the hoses better. Also you asked for some inside the cab photos of the heating system. I just have this one for now. I'll take some more later.
Shoes that get contaminated never really come clean. When they get hot the oils and or brake fluid comes out and causes the problems all over again. Unless the problem just started and you caught it in time, always replace the brake shoes.
Actually the master cylinder in the Air-Force deuces (dual brake system) is a modern design. With the newer style "short Air-Pac" you really have a modern system there. Peashooter (Aaron) was selling master cylinders that had all the goodies on them including warning sensors for low fluid. So...
First off you need to post those pictures here on this site. I could not view them without downloading some extra program which I won't do. Plus it is Steel Soldiers policy.
They will be NOS not NEW. I don't know who makes any that will fit our deuce but I know there are similar ones out there that just might work with a little tweeking. That arrangement of one on the bottom mating into the one on top is a very common design. I've even seen Polyurethane ones that...
You have a generator correct ? That means you have an external voltage regulator. Did you ever test it ? That is what usually goes bad, the regulator not the generator.
I forgot to add that when you replace the regulator you must polarize it. The TM will tell you how this is done. Usually you...
I wouldn't try. They must be soldered in place and that would be next to impossible with this generator. I have mine totally apart and after looking at how they mounted the diodes I just would not attempt it.
The first four pictures show the bulk-head fitting I installed for the pressure line to the air-manifold. You should always use a bulk-head fitting when you have air or fluids going through a wall or panel. Grommets are fine for electrical lines but you don't want to take a chance on having the...
If I did that I would no longer have to worry about what the wife thought about my military trucks or equipment ! In fact as I was just writing this my wife came by and read what I was posting. She said "you got that right as I would leave your ass !!! " .
Pictures one and two show the inlet hose for the coolant filter. Picture one hose end is after the thermostat so no coolant will flow until the engine is warm.
Pictures three and four show the coolant outlet line.
Picture five shows the cab heater inlet hose. Picture six shows the cab heater...
