It's been tested on the road and works perfect. It's at least a grade 8. Some are grade 10, but I don't have any of those.
I have installed Dexter FreeBack brake system on both trailers.
Allows me to back up a fully loaded trailer uphill and not activate the brakes.
The pin is in case the...
Thanks!
Bought a 2000 GMC savana conversion van for the trip.
My wife and I, two teenage girls, son home from college and two dogs.
8 states and 4K miles.
No interstates driven where possible. All back roads.
Elevation from sea level (beach) to 11,000 (Rockies).
Was a absolute wonderful...
Why remove?
What problems are you having?
Just fix the issues and you will have great brakes.
Once you repair/replace what's needed, the system will be trouble free for years.
Are the brakes overkill?
Maybe, but when the trailers loaded and heavy and someone pulls/steps out in front of you...
Just back from two week vacation and the list of things to do is long.
Today I'm removing the radiator from my M1008A1.
Will take it to a shop and see if it can be saved.
If not, then a new one gets installed.
Hopefully the cooler lines will come out easily.
Ive sprayed penetrant on them...
Replace your old Alternator before it goes out and takes other components with it.
Mine took out the PCB, ABS controller, and CTIS controller when it spiked and literally fried itself. Worst smelling smoke ever!
I installed a brand new (not reman) Delco-Remy 33si 100A unit.
Best thing I ever...
Like mentioned, it really depends on what your going to do with it.
I've seen an FJ with a heavy trailer that really squatted the rear, to the point of the FJ having steering issues.
Hauling heavy items with a high center of gravity and that 4" off level will definitely matter.
But if your...
What was he going to do with it?
Drive it and wreck it and never admit to taking it in the first place?!
With No respect for someone's property, they would be no friend of mine.
Harsh yes, but he didn't tell you up front when you got back.
Its not like he borrowed a chainsaw.
I've changed out several in other trucks and it's usually fairly easy. Cooler lines are always the hardest part.
The new style radiators don't bother me a bit. Those hold up very well.
Will order new one regardless.
If original can be fixed, great. If not, I already have new one ready to go...
Well I now have to tackle all this since my original radiator has decided to start leaking.
Cap side at bottom right at core/tank junction.
Yes Hose clamp is tight and wish it was that simple
Will take to shop first, but will most likely have to go this route.
I swear it started leaking...
Welcome!
Its a bit unusual for a department to change the grill and bumpers, etc.
They don't spend any funds unless they have to.
Is there a data plate on the drivers side door jam?
Doors get swapped a lot and at first glance, yours looks like a regular truck that had the drivers door swapped...
You will need 2, preferably 3 spares with you. Good spares, not worn out ones that can still hold air.
AH Gravel Rocks are killer on low tread tires. New ones also.
Everyone I know that has made that drive has needed every single one to make it to the next place for repair/replace.
If you do...
You will need several spares. The Alaskan Highway will eat several.
Tire plug kit and air compressor are essential.
Plus All the normal road trip items and some spare parts, extra oil and a spare fuel filter or two. Fuel cans etc.
Belts, fuses, bulbs, road flares, flashlight and extra...
At the most, you will only get snapshots of its past service/unit history.
With the exception(s) already noted in this thread, you will NEVER know its full life history.
This has been covered in detail several times.
All the part numbers and bolt sizes are included.
I bought the longer bolt and large washer for install and it worked perfect.
Installed a new ACDELCO HB and it's been flawless.
