Everything. That engine was one that American trucking evolved through. It reigned in the late 1960s. I'm sure everyone who was running 6-71 Jimmys or 180 Cummins were dying to upgrade to the blazing 250 hp this engine offered.
If you are loosing compression out of an intake valve, that cylinder would not contribute and power would be down 1/6 th. In a gutless 5 ton, this would be very noticeable. More likely the compressed air system is venting for some reason.
I had a 11.00-20 blow out on the right front of a M135 long ago. At 55 mph the loud bang scared the heck out of me but controlling the truck to the side of the road was no problem. The tire was completely shredded.
Hans, be aware that there is nearly no parts support for FMTVs or Brazos specific components. Cat and Allison can help with those parts, but otherwise it is a hodgepodge of a handful of vendors with a few parts and "ebay". Does this sound like a good plan for you? Older FMTVs are proving to...
201 is pwr steering cooler, 351 is parking brake move, 352 is 3 pt seat belt. The 6.5 was not a MWO. No telling how many miles the truck or engine has.
If you wedge a Brownie Box in there, the driveshaft between the box and the forward tandem will be about 18" long. Does that raise any issues in your mind? Think articulation.
MississippiRifle, that is a 6 ton trailer. 12 ton trailers have civi lighting hookups.
Michael, I pulled a 750 trailer off of Ft Hood back in the DRMO auction days with a gas F350 and a dolly converter. Had to abort when the rig would not go over 35 mph or stop within a mile.
MtnSnow, that "home brewed" reassignment would not work in my state. Needs to be an official State of California reassignment document. Like the Florida one we used to get from GL.
PM or call Jeepsinker, that is his AO and he may know someone who can help or maybe he can. It is a 450 mile round trip for me at 6 mpg so I am not your best option. His phone is in his tagline or sig line or whatever it is called.
Try calling Torres Metal Recycling in Sealy TX for more axles, they scrapped lots of Caimans as well.
As far as a MTV 5 ton gear swap, you would need all three axles from a Caiman and you would have the option of just replacing the entire axle assy as they are the same except for the ratio.
Well Jeepsinker answered your question in post #2 and since I agreed with him I hit the "thanks" button rather than making a post that said the same thing.
