Vacuum gage is old school and it works. They say the old guys always had one in there tool box and used it often. Yea not only the valves but the timing and so much more as you said. After I built my 502 in my boat my son and I took it out with a vacuum gage. With the boat in gear going forward...
I am getting ready to put the front axle back together with new brakes and slave cylinders. Have the hubs off so I would like to make a inner hub seal installing tool using the inner bearing race. If someone would be so kind as to the race number I will order one and make my tool. Tanks
Yea the wheel would hold the drum on no problem. Think I am just looking for stuff to do to keep my mind off what is happening around the world. Also the right tools makes a easy job of it and I even did the screw that holds the shoe inspection plate on the drum. I like working on this smaller...
Engine oil and filter plus removed the bypass canister and gave it a good cleaning. Had a little brake fluid on the passenger side drum front so pulled both sides. New hub seals and will repack the bearings tomorrow when my seals come in plus new wheel cylinders. I will say those hub seals have...
I never have used a torque stick. Would be interesting to use one then check it with my big torque wrench. Yea the big torque wrench is not for everybody that maybe only needs it once or twice. Yes 500 bucks is a lot and I have not checked the price of a torque stick. My Milwaukee M18 3/4" drive...
I down loaded the TM's I could find and Erick and I did go through them but I am the problem child here. OK the distributor has a port at the bottom and a flat blade plug. I saw nothing in the TM's or lube order about how often to oil. I put a little motor oil in the port and closed it up...
Thanks to the people up at C&C equipment. I ordered my new AVM hubs for the M37 on this Monday and they came in today Wednesday. Good price and no over charging on the shipping through USPS.
Yep and thanks. Someone must have used a ratchet with tapered corners on mine as I had a little trouble getting mine out. Plus someone thinks the drain plug needs fifty foot pounds. I was able to install with no trouble using my 3/8 to 1/2 adapter that has good square corners. As you said the...
I do not think there was too much difference. I was planning on extending my crappy quick job with just some more pipe and exhausting right where the old one came out. Too many other things to worry about right now for a truck that sits.
Look in our classifieds? When I did mine the gaskets were trashed but the way the pipe fits together and clamps I did not use a gasket and it did not leak.
If it was to match my guess you never want the front coming in stronger than the rear. I much rather have the rears lock up but not the front so I do not loose steering. Yea front has a big percentage of stopping but if you can not steer could be worse. Some of the older bigger trucks had a...
My fault for calling chicken little. Sorry. No worry you are repacking the bearings and that is what seems to fail a lot if not serviced when we get these trucks. If you have the cross type axles I would bet there are good and even if you had the ball and seat bet it still has enough grease to...
After finding a battery tray and ordering the stock hold down bracket from Midwest things looking good. The battery box and lid came with the truck when I bought it. I used aftermarket hold down rods for now but have ordered the stock rods / bolts. Thanks to an old post and one of our members...
That is why I like the cross type and not greasing the knuckle and not over greasing the knuckle pivot pins. That way if I do go fording to drain out any water in the knuckle I just have to remove one of the bottom king pin cap bolt and drain out any water.
Yea guess so. I see that you just had the hub seal problem and yea the thread started with full service. I always like to go neck high when servicing these trucks as we do not know how it was treated or what we have. The Deuce and the 5 ton axles I have serviced all seem to have the newer axles...
Yea I would put grease in the knuckle and pack it around the CV joint if you have the old Timken ball and seat type of axle / CV joint. I do not put grease in the knuckle if there is the newer cross type universal joint. But know matter what axle you have before you put the spindle on the...
