Looks like we are about to see lots of these on the market. I have zero exposure to these trucks except for touring the S&S plant back in the 90's. My question is: New member "ragingbear" reports that his M1078 seems to max out at 50 mph, with comfortable cruising speed of 45. Do other...
You're OK. What they are looking for is evidence you welded up the old numbers and stamped in new ones. Rust and old paint are clues you have not done this.
How cool is that. So the 5159866 is the Army registration number that would have been painted on the hood. And the VIN is 674. Glad to learn something new.
Welcome to Steelsoldiers. Keep looking around the handle area for the vin, it may be stamped lightly. The missing bracket means you have the steering upgrade. There was a large casting bolted there before. The number on your main data plate looks to be the VIN, more or less. I believe the...
Welcome. I toured the Stewart and Stevenson plant years ago, and I remember as we careened around the test track, the driver telling us that the truck CAN be reprogrammed to go faster. Since that plant is now closed, those people that knew how to do this have been scattered to the wind. I...
That is a job for OKC Auction Service. Pickup appointments are a week out at GL OKC. Your only hope is to have OKC Auction see if they can sweet talk someone.
I'll chime in. My deuce tractor runs 185 hp LDS and I used to gross 50,000 GCWR and run 55 mph. The Rockwells would just about be glowing after hours on end. The axles can handle significant hp and torque in spurts, but the heat buildup is what kills them for OTR use with big power and weight.
Yes, I dropped off my trashed DB2 and got back my rebuilt unit. Not sure how things would work out if you needed a housing. That might be why the Stanadyne quote was so high.
The 2" oscillating unit looks like it uses the same slider base as the 3.5" unit? Maybe you can just switch out the top part, i.e. the trunnions and the plate? Some study of the Holland Hitch online catalog might shed some light on this. Would be cheaper than buying the 2" plate new.
