Can it haul more?
Most certainly
I've seen pics of them doing amazing things.
But.........
Go outside the rated maximum on the road and if something happens, the lawyers will have a field day.
Insurance company will run the other way.
And worse
10 tons on paved road I think.
5 tons off road
How did you haul the gravel?
Troop seats out I assume.
Was it hard getting the tailgate down with pressure on it?
Did it take off paint on bed?
Curious because I was thinking of doing same thing.
Any luck?
Did you buy a new signal switch?
I keep a spare brand new one for this very reason.
Did clean up original one that was having issues and it's still working great.
Updated flasher to new style since I have all led lights.
So far so good
Battery's aren't getting charged.
New ones will do same until you fix the charging issue.
Two months?
If all was good when you parked it, I would start looking for signs of mice eating your wiring.
If no sign of that then start your troubleshooting
Need some back history about the truck...
Agree
The more you add, the increased chance of failure.
Would be interesting to see what would have been done to these trucks if they were still on active duty.
I personally would love to have a USMC 7 ton. Best of both worlds.
Didn't use a string at all. Just removed the plastic piece on top of lower column. The one that holds
the wire bundles in place. Then it's a straight shot to the plug. Then reinstall the piece you removed.
If you leave that wire holder in place it would be a total Nightmare.
It was very easy...
I know the question wasn't for me but Mine is bone stock except for some gauges and hour meter.
Agree with keeping it as intended.
Once things get modified, the manuals go out the window so to speak.
Just replaced the switch inside the column with NOS ACDelco. $35
Its not hard with two people. One pushing down on the lock and the other getting the lock ring loose.
Removal Tool would make it a breeze.
Three screws in switch to remove (I think) and disconnect the plug on top of lower...
Sure it runs just fine dirty or clean.
It's a lot easier and nicer working on a clean engine.
Easier to spot leaks, etc. when it's clean.
No sense in rolling around in dirt and grease if you don't have to.
The alternators are factory delco/remys with the original standard sized pulleys.
My spare alt has a smaller solid pulley that would make the problem worse.
Pulleys do not show much wear and haven't any problems with squealing.
I am (was) just out of any more adjustment travel.
Didnt know...
Installed new shorter belt
Problem gone.
Not as much future adjustment as I would like but it works.
I Think next belt I will get one that allows as close to the full adjustment travel as possible.
What about the turn signal switch inside the steering column?
I had a bad one for a horn issue than all checked good until I had steering wheel off and looking at the switch.
What part number worked for you?
Ive run Gates belts, hoses, thermostats, and caps since I started driving.
They have never let me down. Not once
That's why I stick with them. Works for me anyway.
I haven't been to all of the stores, but most around here don't stock a lot of belts anymore.
At least good ones.
They seem to always have to get it from the warehouse.
Will try that again today in a bigger city.
Ive tried calling and asked them for a belt one inch shorter than a 7575
and...
What gator back part number is working for you? The one listed in wiki?
i can use thst for reference.
Both alts are the factory Delco Remys with the standard pully.
Unless your doing long road trips just keep it topped off at every stop or so.
I get right at 16 mpg on my M1008.
20 gallons takes you a long way unless your really pushing it.
Second on the ground.
Have read the threads about this and there are several part numbers out there.
I'm running a gates 7575 right now and even when brand new it's almost at adjustment limit. After the run in and readjust, its maxed out on travel.
Since the tach install all has been good but haven't been driving...
